Fit Yummy Mummy - After Birth Weight Loss

After birth weight loss usually takes up to six months to start to take effect. You should not be in too much of a hurry to lose all that weight you have acquired during pregnancy. You should be able to give time for your body to heal first since it would feel exhausted and stressed. Try to center your attention first on eating healthily to allow yourself to regenerate and prepare yourself for the upcoming tasks of becoming a new mother.

Exercise should be a part of your daily routine. It actually helps level out your moods aside from keeping you in shape. Just be careful to do it gradually, though and avoid any type of activity that could be too strenuous for your body. Make sure that if you decide to have exercise as part of your after birth weight loss regimen, you should always consult your doctor for some advice on how to get you started.

2 to 3 months after you give birth and you period has returned to normal, when you feel that you are strong enough to take on normal activities, you can begin following a stricter program. The ideal program to start with is to have an aim of losing 1 pound per week. Just remember to carry on with the healthy and balanced diet and you can be sure that after birth weight loss should be possible.

How much you weight you gained during pregnancy should largely affect the time it will take you to return to your original weight. 23 to 35 pounds is just about the average weight a mother gains during pregnancy and loses 12 to 21 pounds after child birth. After birth weight loss should cover about 6 to 8 months.

If you have gained more than the average, try to add an extra month of proper diet and exercise for every 6 pounds in excess of 35 pounds. This is just mainly a guide for you to follow, it will still depend on how well your metabolism is working.

Fast Facts About Hemp Make the Case For Hemp Diapers

Children of the eighties have recovered their parents' fascination with hemp, but they have put it to practical use instead of relegating it to the world of poor jokes and sniggering allusions. By the time the children of eighties children have their own children, hemp probably will be the fabric-of-choice, the norm for cloth diapers worldwide.

Fast Facts and Considerable Advantages

Yes, hemp belongs to the same family as marijuana, and you might easily mistake one for the other in the wild, because their leaves have very similar shapes. Hemp, however, contains absolutely no THC, the psychoactive ingredient in marijuana. Children of the eighties already have outgrown the jokes and allusions. In fact, hemp's genus and species name, translated from Latin, specifies it as "useful cannabis"-a huge distinction from its intoxicating relative.

Three times stronger than cotton, considerably more absorbent, and far more durable, hemp grows abundantly with very little care or cultivation, and it requires no pesticides because it has no insect enemies. In other words, hemp is an infinitely sustainable high-yield crop. And hemp fibers are by far the strongest known to humankind.

Hemp naturally resists fungi and bacteria, and it is both biodegradable and easily recyclable. Medical history contains no record of allergic reaction to hemp fibers-not one reported case in more than 10,000 years of regular household use.

Despite hemp's conspicuous advantages and tremendous profit-making potential, it has not become a cash crop. Although it ought to cost considerably less than cotton or synthetic fibers, hemp's relative scarcity has driven-up its price as demand for hemp diapers and other hemp clothing steadily has increased. This scarcity remains the single obstacle to hemp's emergence as the world's leading diaper material. In 2009, only one Chinese manufacturer produced the hemp/organic cotton blend used in diapers.

Hemp typically is processed and woven into one of five fabrics:
(1)muslin, common in women's blouses and dresses;
(2)knit jersey, comparable with everyday t-shirt fabrics;
(3) stretch-knit terry, a blend of hemp and Lycra prized for its exceptional absorbency;
(4) French terry, a hemp cotton blend woven to the texture of good bath towels; and
(5)fleece, comparable with sweatshirt material and most commonly used for diapers.

Is it Right to Dedicate Ourselves Totally to Our Kids?

The approach to do everything for our children is right but is a little problematic. When we decide to dedicate totally our live to our kids, it is like to give up on ourselves. We consciously say to ourselves that our life is not important.

When we act like this we forget something basic and very important. Our kids will be much happier when we will feel better. It is a fact! if our routine is only a job during the day, and at evenings we dedicate ourselves only to our kids, soon we will be discharged like a battery. So the conclusion from this is that we have to charge ourselves. How to do it? it is simple.

Do you remember how your life before the kids was? I think you do. Most of us remember those days as days when we were free, and we did almost everything that was on our mind. From one side, we can't turn back those days but from the other side we don't have to live only from that memory.

So the question is how to combine between parenthood and the will to live as a young carefree couple. In my opinion, the answer to this question is - family activities. When we will do things as a family (with our kids) it will be possible to claim for time only for ourselves, as a couple.

For example, if on this week we already played table games with our kids, and made a family performance and in addition sat and helped them with their home work, it will be "OK" to go out. Only us , the parents. You may call for granny or ask your friends for help. You can decide that once a week you make a babysitter for your friend's kids and once a week they will do it for you.

The Winter Lawn

As we are moving rapidly into the winter season, some of you may be wondering what you should do with your lawn, if anything at all, to have it looking good for the summer months.

Well with the colder spells it is fair to say that there will be less growth in the garden, however, there are still jobs that can be done.

-Go into winter with short grass. Try starting at the end of the fall and the very beginning of winter. Try cutting the grass gradually shorter to curb extra growth at the beginning of the season. The growth will use up nutrients which will dry out the root of the grass, which ultimately may mean dead grass come the spring.

-It is worth checking your lawn for Snow Mould or Fusarium Nivale which occurs at temperatures between 0 degrees C and 8 degrees C.

Fusarium disease starts as a small yellowing patch which turn brown as the patches enlarge. Sometimes - in damp weather - a white or pinkish mould can be seen in the patches. It normally subsides a little as the air temperature warms up and lawns dry out a little. To try to avoid snow mould you should try to avoid high nitrogen fertilisers as too much growth in the winter months and snow are a bad combination. A heavy Potash fertiliser applied in Autumn or a liquid tomato feed.

If you are finding Snow Mould then using Carbendazim, which is a lawn fungicide to treat the mould is a good idea.

-Try spiking a lawn regularly throughout the year to help with drainage.

-It is worth weeding your grass in the winter. As the grass is not growing rapidly in the winter, weeds can take advantage of this and start to kill the grass. Try using a herbicide to kill the weeds before they grow or wait until they grow and then use a weed killer.

-Try to maintain the upkeep the garden by moving any fallen leaves, debris and seasonal yard decorations from the yard. If snow falls on these items, it creates an air-tight blanket that smothers your garden and does major damage to the blades of grass and the lawn.

-Try to stay off of the lawn when it snows.

-Very importantly, try to look after your gardening equipment. A lawnmower can be disassembled and then oiled before re-assembly. If you do use an electric mower then make sure that it is cleaned and kept in a place where damp or wet conditions will not create rust.

-Other garden tools such as rakes, spades, hoes etc should also be cleaned and again kept in a place where damp or wet conditions can not seek to cause rust and hence when it is time to re-use the equipment they are in a good condition and are ready to be used.

These are just some basic tips that you can follow to try to get your lawn looking its best for next season.

Your Pregnancy Size by Week! How Much Weight Should You Gain During Pregnancy?

Not every pregnant woman is going to gain the same amount of weight, nor will they gain at the same rate. Obviously every woman -- and pregnancy -- is unique! However, it's important to follow a few guidelines to help keep you on track and aware.

Maintaining a healthy weight will not only be beneficial to you, but also to your baby. It will also help to avoid certain illnesses related to pregnancy, such as gestational diabetes.

How Much Weight Should Be Gained During Pregnancy?

An average-weight woman should gain between 25 and 35 pounds throughout the entire pregnancy. Overweight Women should aim to gain a little less -- about 15 pounds, and underweight women should aim for a little more -- about 35-45 pounds.

Pregnant women expecting multiples will probably gain more weight than those carrying only one baby.

How Should the Weight Be Gained?

The term "eating for two" is misleading, and unhealthy. Despite the fact that there is another human growing inside of you, you do not require twice the amount of food you once did prior to being pregnant. Following this method will only put much more weight on than necessary. In general, an extra 300 calories per day is recommended. Make these calories count by focusing on healthier food choices.

Where Does the Weight Go?

The pounds gained throughout the entire pregnancy are distributed as follows:

Baby -- 7-8 pounds
Placenta -- 2-3 pounds
Amniotic Fluid -- 2-3 pounds
Breast Tissue -- 2-3 pounds
Blood Supply -- 2-3 pounds
Uterus -- 4 pounds
Fat -- 2-5 pounds
Total -- 25-35 pounds

Some women may not actually gain any weight during the first trimester, especially if they are nauseous. Others may gain quite a bit at first. Trimester 2 and 3 will (or should!) have a more even weight gain rate.

Weekly Weight Gain Rate

Follow this guide to see how much weight gained per week is ideal. Remember that this is only an average! The numbers stated below are a range:

2 weeks -- 1-4 pounds
4 weeks -- 3-6 pounds
6 weeks -- 3-7 pounds
8 weeks -- 4-9 pounds
10 weeks -- 4-11 pounds
12 weeks -- 5-12 pounds
14 weeks -- 5-14 pounds
16 weeks -- 6-15 pounds
18 weeks -- 7-16 pounds
20 weeks -- 7-18 pounds
22 weeks -- 8-19 pounds
24 weeks -- 9-20 pounds
26 weeks -- 10-21 pounds
28 weeks -- 11-22 pounds
30 weeks -- 13-24 pounds
32 weeks -- 15-26 pounds
34 weeks -- 17-28 pounds
36 weeks -- 19-30 pounds
38 weeks -- 21-32 pounds
40 weeks -- 23-35 pounds

You'll probably gain about 3 or 4 pounds per month, with a little weight gained near the end. Don't be alarmed if no weight is gained in the last couple of weeks -- this is common.

Overcome Female Infertility - What is A Cervical Mucus Test?

As we mentioned in previous articles, infertility is defined as inability of a couple to conceive after 12 months of unprotected sexual intercourse or can not carry the pregnancy to term. It effects over 5 millions couple alone in the U.S. and many times more in the world. Because of an unawareness of treatments, only 10% seeks help from professional specialist. In this article, we will discuss what is female infertility cervical mucus test ?

I. Definition
Cervical mucus test is the study of the cervical mucus through out menstrual cycles. The main focus of the test is to analyze "Is the mucus is friendly to sperm invasion or not ?". There are 2 types of cervical test.

II. Procedure
1. Spinnbarkeit
The sample is taken from the vagina to check for the day of ovulation.

2. Postcoital test
The test is examined within 4 hours at the doctor office or laboratory after sexual intercourse and assuming that the male partner has a healthy sperm production.

III. Diagnosis

a) Spinnbarkeit test
Spinnbarkeit is a self help kit, it can be done by a woman at comfort at her own home to exam the mucus characteristics, because the mucus consistently change throughout menstrual cycle. If the mucus is watery and stretchable, it means it is very close or a good chance that the ovulation is coming.

b) Postcoital test
It is also known as sperm-sperm mucus interaction test or Sims-Huhner test, it is done after the Spinnbartkeit test or at the laboratory just before ovulation to see how the sperm of the male partner swim through the watery and stretchable mucus. If the sperm is able to swim normally then the cervical mucus is consider friendly to sperm invasion or otherwise. If there are no sperm are found in the cervical mucus but presented in vagina, or sperm are found clumping, no movement or dead then the female partner may be suspected to produce sperm hostile cervical mucus. More analysis may be required to rule out any external factors.

Will My Guests Hate Me For Ruining Their Clothes If I Have a Hog Roast at My Garden Party?

Having a Hog Roast at a garden party or BBQ is not Homer Simpson event. Cooking a Spit or Hog Roast takes a lot of skill and much preparation. Understanding how to stuff a pig in order to keep the meat moist takes experience in large scale cooking. If Homer were to try to cook this it would be called charcoal pig not barbequed pork or Hog Roast so if you are worried that your Uncle Homer will come and ruin the day you can rest easy. In order to spit roast a beast that will wow your guests takes a fairly long term commitment from sourcing the animal, stuffing it, stitching in the stuffing, preparing the skin, preparing the fire and knowing that you'll have enough of the right wood/charcoal (or gas barbeque), the patience to turn the spit once every five to ten minutes for seven to eight hours and the skill to carving the pig without it falling apart a ruining in the fire.

When you take these elements into consideration you can see that only a hardened amateur chef would attempt a Hog Roast and therefore an Outside Catering Company might be a better option if a Hog Roast BBQ takes your fancy. A small independent Catering Company will be able to offer you a selection of breeds of pig, lamb or goat! Will know the best stuffings for each and, most important with pork, create great crackling to tempt those on diets to take a day off. Once you have outdoor caterers involved in the equation you can be sure that the cooking process will go down without issue and with their knowledge on carving the meat they'll be able to serve your guests so that they won't get grease, oil and charcoal over their nice clothes. Also an event catering company will know the best wood to use for each meat e.g. cherry logs for pork whereas if you attempt this alone you might find yourself with yew, which would give the meat an acrid flavour.

So, if you're worried about your guests' clothes employ an event catering company and let them take the strain whilst you enjoy your guests company because after twelve hours of preparation I'm sure that you won't have much energy to enjoy your guests or your Hog Roast for that matter. Happy Eating this Summer!

Choosing the Right Doctors - A Vital Step Towards IVF Treatment

IVF is a very complicated procedure which, to be successfully accomplished, needs a combination of doctors from various specialisations. A fertility clinic offering IVF treatment must have experts in fields of gynaecology, endocrinology, embryology, urology, surgery and psychology to name a few. Absence of any one will render the procedure unsafe and unsuccessful.

A good IVF treatment needs an examination by a geneticist who can assess genetic disorders in the patients. This helps in preventing likely complications during the pregnancy as well as transfer of disorders like thalassemia to the foetus. A reproductive endocrinologist is also an IVF doctor. He monitors the hormonal changes during the treatment cycle. A reproductive surgeon is needed for surgical correction of conditions like obstruction of fallopian tubes, endometriosis and urinary tract disorders. A reproductive urologist specialises in treating male urinary tract disorders. The urologist must also be capable of carrying out surgical procedures to counteract obstructions or other defects in the male urinary tract.

Another important IVF doctor is an embryologist who specialises in maintaining viable embryos after fertilization. Embryologist's expertise is particularly of great significance in freezing the unused embryos. An expert in the field of immunology is needed to handle immunity related problems which might occur during implantation and the course of pregnancy. Andrologist is also an IVF doctor who particularly takes care of male hormones and sperm quality. He prepares the sperms for final fusion with the ova. A gynecologist completes the team. Good fertility centres also offer the services of a psychological counsellor as the IVF treatment involves immense mental exhaustion for the patient.

All the IVF doctors must hold M.D degree and ample experience. To make IVF physically and emotionally rewarding to the aspiring parents the competence of variously specialised doctors is required. No single doctor can boast of providing a complete treatment satisfactorily.

IVF is the last hope towards motherhood for a woman after having tried natural as well as all available methods of assisted conception. Her desperation makes her an easy target for a number of fake IVF doctors who might leave her in absolute physical and mental jeopardy after deriving huge monetary benefits. Today many doctors claim to provide expert IVF services. Fake doctors generally do not provide full details of the procedures involved. They may charge less but at the same time may not have facilities and expertise for most basic requirements of the IVF treatment like freezing of embryos.

A good IVF doctor will have discussions and planning about the smallest details of the procedure with the intended couple. He will encouragingly answer all the queries and provide advice on alternatives, time limit, costs and success rate of the procedure. It is therefore very important to make thorough research before selecting an IVF doctor. One places ones life in the hands of the IVF doctor so his credentials must be most carefully checked.

Choosing Great Holiday Invitations is Easy and Fun

Do you love to throw holiday parties? If you are like many people, you look forward to gathering your friends and family together for a great party in your home. Halloween is one of America's most favorite holidays and hosting a Halloween party is loads of great fun! People come dressed in a wide variety of outlandish costumes and the streets outside are abuzz with trick-or-treaters gleefully rushing from home to home in search of goodies. If you are going to throw a Halloween party, be sure that your Halloween invitations are fun and lighthearted in keeping with the spirit of Halloween.

Part of planning a party is selecting and sending invitations. Some people simply head to their local card shop and rather thoughtlessly purchase a package of generic invitations. These invitations are often tossed aside and the party is forgotten by the recipient. You should try to send exciting invitations that will have your guests eager to attend the gala.

You can actually make some great holiday invitations yourself if you have the time and money to do so. Often parents help their kids print out invitations when the party is for children, but most adults would rather purchase the invitations as it saves time.

Christmas parties are annual events for many families across the United States. This is the one single time when friends and family all come together to share the holiday spirit.

If you're planning a Christmas party you should consider purchasing your Christmas invitations, or any holiday invitations for that matter, on the internet as you will find the lowest prices and the widest selection by far. There are many websites that sell nothing but invitations and the variety is incredible and the prices very reasonable. Many websites who specialize in holiday invitations include the option of allowing you to personalize the invites. You can special order the text you want printed on your cards or you may be able to have photo cards made, using your favorite family pictures.

Hosting a holiday party in your home takes a lot of work and meticulous planning. You want your guests to eagerly await the party and arrive in high spirits. If you take the time to carefully select your holiday invitations, the recipients will appreciate the fact that you sent a invitation that has meaning and is relevant to the holiday you will be celebrating.

The Excellent Use of Chia Herb Garden Kit

Do you know about the Chia herb garden kit? They are still available at your local garden centers and nurseries. They are increasing in popularity because more and more homeowners and gardeners are using them when starting their own small herb garden at home.

The reason for this is that Chia herbs can grow much faster than the traditional herb planting when the herb seeds included in the kit are moisten and applied to a specially designed pots and containers with special sponges.

Chia ia very in demand today because of the easiness of their starting process. Also, their maintenance is so much easier than the other traditional gardening. This is why most gardeners and homeowners consider them simple and hassle free. Just imagine that the germination period will just take about 4 days in your Chia herb garden!

The Chia herb garden kit includes seeds and special pots for starting a small garden of herbs. Aside from pots and seeds, there are also saucers, saucer liners, terra cotta pots as well as directions on how to use the Chia herb garden kit. Furthermore, the types of Chia seeds included in the set include cilantro, dill chives, sweet basil, curled parsley, and marjoram which are all easy to grow.

Some sets of Chia kits also include a plant marker. Plant marker is use for organizing the herbs easily when they are growing. In addition to some Chia sets are some special sponges that will be very helpful in facilitating the growth of your planted herbs.

First, moisten the sponges in each pot as well as the Chia seeds. Drop the Chia seeds and distribute them evenly on the top of those moisten sponges. It is just as easy as this. Finally, watch your Chia herb garden to take its full form.

You just need to water your herbs regularly and after they have reached a certain height, you can transfer then in your traditional garden area and watch them reach their full growth.

However, you should be aware of some things like the appearance of white fuzzy substances. You may assume that these are molds. Actually, they are not.

They are just the natural byproduct of the tree bark in the sponge. This white fuzzy substance is their source of nutrition and that the Chia seeds need them in order for them to grow properly in your Chia herb garden. If you are displeased by its unpleasant looks, you can wipe them though.

Mommy, Let Me Teach You How to Play

Here is a short, dramatic vignette. The characters are Annette: a very pretty, five-year-old child, and Anne, her mother, who is attractive but appears harried. The time is 3:30PM. The two are in the living room of their comfortable home.

Annette says,"Mom! You said we could play after school." Her mother answers, "Yes, I did, But first I want to hear what you learned today." (See Commentary below for explanation of numbers.)(1)

Annette says, "Oh, Mom!" Anne replies, "How's the reading coming?" Annete answers, " It's fine. We did rhymes again." Anne: "And the alphabet?" Annette: " We sang the song. I have a good idea. I'll get the dollies and we can sing to them." Anne: "Why don't we finish..." Annette interrupts: "Mom. Please..." She runs out and returns carrying three dolls: a baby doll, a floppy rag doll dressed as a boy, and a doll in a pretty dress who looks like Annette. Annette: "OK, Mom, you be Floppy-Boy, and I'll be Baby and Little Annette." Annette imitates her teacher. "All right children, let's hear the alphabet song." Her mother sings, as Baby Doll: "A-B-C-D-E-F-G," Annette interrupts: "No, Mom - Baby doesn't know that song.. Maybe she would sing 'A BBB.'" Anne responds quickly, "But that's not right! " (2)

Annette answers, She's just a baby. She has to learn. Mom - I want to tell you about what happened. Jimmy was playing soccer and he sprained his wrist." Anne says, " Was that at school?"Annette answers, "No, Mom, but it was life. Life's important too.(3)

Anne: Is he all right? Annette: "Well, he has to wear a brace - and it's his right hand, so he has to learn to write with his left. And he told me he has trouble using a fork, and his Mom has to help him get dressed, and... I know what. We can make Floppy Boy play Jimmy. Do you have a bandage we can use?" Anne: "OK. OK. But I don't understand..".Annette: "Don't worry. While you're getting the bandage, I'll set the table for the Dolly Snack. " Anne leaves and returns with a roll of gauze bandage and a pair of scissors. Meanwhile, Annette gets a toy tea set for four, and places a cup, saucer, and a plate in front of each doll. Anne: " How nice! May I tie up Floppy Boy's wrist?" Annette: "Yes - and I'll put the tea bags in the teapot. " Anne cuts a small piece off of the bandage and ties it on the doll's right arm (4) while Annette mimes putting the tea bags in the teapot. Anne: "Good! May I put some cups and saucers out for us?" Annette: That will make five in the party, and I only have four cups and saucers, (5) so can you and I share?" (6)

Anne: "Of course! I'm going to move Floppy Boy's cup to the side of his good hand." (7)

Annette: "Great, Mom! " She adds another place setting, mimes pouring the tea from the teapot, then sits down. Both mime drinking the tea. Anne: "Delicious!!! " Annette: "Isn't this fun?" Anne: "Yes!!! " Annette: "OK, Mom. You've been so good, I'm going to give you some rhymes. FUN. RUN. SUN. It's fun to run in the sun. (8)

Anne: "But not if you fall down and hurt your hand. That's a BUM - MER! " Annette kisses her Mom and says "Cool, Mom! Now you know how to play. "(9)

COMMENTARY

(1) Mom feels pressured, and wants to stick to her learning agenda that involves emphasis on reading, but Annette has just come home from Kindergarten, and she wants to play, especially since her mother promised. Mom should give her a break.

(2) Children (and the rest of us) learn from our mistakes. In this case, Annette is making a mistake "on purpose." She tells her mother that this is how children learn, and it's all right.

(3) Life IS important, and parents need to make time for this, as well as for teaching school subjects.

(4) Mom is learning how to encourage Annette's imaginative play - a source of creativity.

(5) Through play, Annette is practicing her number skills. Recent studies have demonstrated that mathematical competency at Annette's level is a strong predictor of later achievement. (Duncan et al., 2007)

(6) Sharing with adults as well as children is an important social skill.

(7) Mom is modeling consideration for a child with a handicap.

(8) Annette expresses her pleasure by "rewarding" Mom with information she asked for earlier. She uses rhyming words to create a scenario, a good example of creative literacy.

(9) By following Annette's lead, Mom has succeeded in her original learning goal, and the two also added several new achievements during their spontaneous play together. This gave them the opportunity for some warm mother/daughter bonding.

A good photographer has the know how to make the whole family relaxed and this is reflected in the stunning photo that you will receive. With a variety of backgrounds, props and equipment the colour photo that you select will be a great representation of your family.

I don't suppose your baby was expecting to have her own website, at least not at such an early age, but it's never too early to start a bit of self promotion. A really imaginative baby gift is the New Baby Mini-Website for you and your family and friends to enjoy. This private website is so useful if you know people all around the globe who want to see your new baby girl and read her news.

Here they will find a photo album, home page, be able to leave their messages on a message board, and there is even an email editor. This is an example of great baby gifts that come with easy to follow instructions on how to set things up, so you don't have to be a technophobe. After all, how many little girls can proudly say that they are out there in cyberspace?

Tips For Attaining Western Party Supplies

Western party supplies are for kids and those who reserves some part of their personality as a child. Not everyone likes a cowboy hat, or a cactus shaped light. Ten year olds will take a cowboy party as an event to enjoy to the maximum. Plan the birthday party of your child as a cowboy party, it will be liked not only by your kid, but also by all his friends at school. it is a moment of little honor for the kid and the party the coolest one he can ever experience.

I agree, a successful kid birthday party is not completed with good western party supplies. Careful planning of different aspects of the party goes a long way in making the event a successful one. The guests to the party would like to have some fun playing games you can check out different ideas of presenting them with a nice gaming experience. Give the monkey its tail ?is a game that never goes out of style and the little guests are not going to get tired playing the game.

Also keep some element of suspense. This is keep the kids guessing what is to come next. What you think about squirt guns. Don抰 give it to the boys until towards the end of the party. And have a look at the theme of the party ?a cowboy party. Perfect setting to set the boys break loose. Planning the delivery of western party supplies can help you manage your party and help them enjoy the party to its fullest.

What a party without a little of music and dance. Cowboy party too has scope of dance and music. Get some classic cowboy music like Ghost Riders in the Sky. A cool technique to control the boys when you feel them going out of control is to keep a good set of cowboy movies and let them watch them while you calm down your nerves.

That much is OK, how do you now plan the food arrangement? It may not be possible to take orders from every one of the kids. Just keep three or four items of kid delicacies and ensure the supply never goes out. They can pick the ones they like at the moment and it is contentment for everyone.

Christmas Decorating Through the Eyes of a Child

The joy that Christmas time brings is never more apparent than when seen through the eyes of a child. If you are a parent, then you probably know how much this holiday means to the children in your life. To take this experience to the next level, it is only natural to want to include your children in more aspects of the holiday. Christmas decorating is a great way to involve them in more of your holiday traditions. It is also a great idea to encourage your little ones to make their own unique Christmas ornaments and decorations. If this sounds like a tradition that you would like to begin, then here are some great ideas to help your children in the Christmas decorating hustle and bustle.

A natural way to start your holiday decorating is with the Christmas tree. Almost every home has one and it quickly becomes the center point for your holiday festivities. This year, you can try some handmade ornaments made by you and your children. It is really easy to get started; ornaments can be made from any material that you have on hand, even plain paper. Many of your local craft stores will carry templates that you cut out of your own paper and fashion in to Christmas tree ornaments. If you want an easier way to start, then consider looking into a pre-made ornament that simply needs to be decorated. Add glitter and some markers and you have beautiful handmade ornaments that will make your home lovelier than ever.

Another common decorating method in most homes are Christmas themed pictures and signs. Your children can simply draw some Christmas themed pictures like reindeer, Santa or just a precious winter landscape. These pictures add personality and warmth to your Christmas decor. If your children are older, let them explore their creativity with paint while the younger ones will have plenty of fun with washable markers or crayons. You can take this artwork and place it anywhere in your home or go for the tried and true placement on the refrigerator. This project is great because it will not cost you much, if anything, as all of these supplies are generally on hand. It can also be done by children of any age so no one is left out or bored.

Since there will be plenty of Christmas activities around the dining room table, you can create a lovely centerpiece for the table with your children. You can purchase silk flowers and a basket or vase as well as mini Christmas tree ornaments and signs. Let your children's creative juices flow and see what they come up with. If you have many hands to keep busy, try mini-decorations that can sit at each table setting. A silk flower, some ribbon and a Christmas ornament or message are all it takes to make lovely place settings. If an elegant centerpiece really is not your style, then let the kids go crazy with construction paper and glue and make a Santa centerpiece or maybe a paper Christmas tree. The ideas are endless but the dining room table becomes a perfect place to show off your children's work.

Decorating for the holidays can easily become a family tradition. Being able to include your children will make it a memory that will last for all you, forever.

Important Tips Every Single Parent Should Know

Being a single parent is difficult because you have to be both a mom and a dad, a provider and a caretaker. While this is a difficult task, it is not impossible, so keep these single parenting tips in mind and you will make it a much more enjoyable experience.

One of the most important tips for single parents you can follow is to show your children that you love them every day. In today's fast paced world it can be difficult to take a moment out of the day to show them you care, but there's never a good excuse not to. Tell them every day that you love them and that they are making you proud. If you won't be seeing your child on a particular day, you can even slip a note into their book bag or lunch box for them to find later on.

Next in our list of single parenting tips is to read to your children. This is a great way to help them learn while spending some quality time with them. Even if they are too young to understand the words, the rhythm and tone of your voice are enough. You may even want to make this a daily commitment on your part, setting a time before bed or after dinner each day. This is an excellent way to bond with your children while relaxing and enjoying each other's company.

If you would like to keep close ties with your children, even once they become teenagers, it is important that you eat together as a family on a regular basis. In fact, doing so might even help your children stay away from drugs when they get older. The National Center for Addiction and Substance Abuse at Columbia University has stated that based on surveys they took in 1998, 1999, and 2000, they can say with confidence that the more often a child eats with his or her family, the less chance they have of smoking, drinking, or using illegal drugs.

The last entry in our list for single parenting tips is to try to have a life outside of work and being a parent. Whether it's joining a club, going to the gym each day, or going out with friends once in awhile, putting some time away to enjoy yourself is key if you are going to be a good parent. Your child will not benefit if you are always stressed out from working; in fact, they may even grow up to feel guilty about making you work so hard.

Hopefully you have found these tips for single parents to be helpful. When you spend adequate time with your children you are setting down a firm foundation that the rest of your relationship will be built upon.

Understanding Your Zone

Gardeners need a way to compare their garden climates with the climate where a plant is known to grow well. That's why climate zone maps were created. Zone maps are tools that show where various permanent landscape plants can adapt. If you want a shrub, perennial, or tree to survive and grow year after year, the plant must tolerate year-round conditions in your area, such as the lowest and highest temperatures and the amount and distribution of rainfall.

However, life is not that simple. Within every climate zone there is some variation. Your garden has microclimates that are actually places warmer or cooler than the prevailing temperatures. Therefore, you can grow plants that actually aren't supposed to live in your yard! Seemingly ordinary things like a south-facing brick wall or a large hedge or a lot of mulch can muddy the zonal waters.

The USDA Hardiness Zone Map is one of several maps developed to provide this critical climate information. The USDA map is the one most gardeners in the eastern United States rely on, and the one that most national garden magazines, catalogs, books, and many nurseries currently use. This map divides North America into 11 separate zones. Each zone is 10 degrees F warmer (or colder) in an average winter than the adjacent zone. n the mid-1900s, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) mapped out the entire United States, Mexico and Canada by lowest annual minimum temperature groupings. Each zone represented a 10 degree F. difference. This was invaluable advice for the agriculture industry. Now plants could be rated by hardiness zones, taking the guesswork out of choosing plant varieties. You have a gauge, other than experience, for picking plants.

The maps have been revised over the years, to reflect changes in climate. In 1990, the zones were further divided, with each numbered zone being broken down into an 'a', the lower temperature end of the zone, and a 'b', the higher. Unfortunately plant breeders have yet to start using these distinctions, so they are mostly useful if a gardener wants to push the envelope a bit. A gardener in zone 6b will be tempted to dabble in 7a plants. Given the variability of climate, it's a hit and miss situation.

The American Horticulture Society (AHS) introduced a Plant Heat-Zone Map in 1997, intended to supplement the hardiness map. Heat related problems are much harder to quantify. High summer temperatures only told half the story. Plants don't usually react to a day or two of heat they way they might respond to a frost. However, plants subjected to a two week heat wave could well succumb. Other variables that weren't considered were things like humidity levels, nighttime temperatures and rainfall.

The AHS was awarded a grant to update the USDA Hardiness Zone Map. They studied 30 years of weather data and are in the process of updating the zone maps to include mitigating circumstances such as the length of cold spells in the winter, airflow patterns, the effect of large bodies of water like oceans and lakes and heat factors. The distinction of 'a' and 'b' sub-zones is gone. There will now be 15 zones instead of the current 11.

Spring Gallery in the Bulb Garden

The spring bulb garden reaches its zenith with mid season tulips and daffodils flowering together, creating one of the most colorful tapestries imaginable. The late winter and early spring bulbs are nearly all dwarf forms, but many of the mid season varieties, including summer snowflake, most of the daffodils and almost all tulips, are much taller, growing to 60cm.

Meanwhile crown imperial rises to almost 1.2m or more, making it one of the most statuesque of all bulbs. The grape hyacinths, including wood anemone, bluebell and dog's tooth violet are shorter at only 30cm. There are also some shorter daffodils, such as silver chimes and some small species tulips, such as the lilac and diminutive. While tulips and grape hyacinths prefer to bask in spring and sunshine, several of the fritillaries, including snake's head fritillary, and nearly all daffodils are happy in sun or partial shade.

Others, such as wood anemones, dog's tooth violets and summer snowflakes, enjoy light shade, in damp grass or woodland. Here, the first bluebells will be starting to flower. Typical of mid season daffodils, romance grows to about 50cm high. It is a beautifully proportioned white daffodil with a rich pink trumpet, and it looks stunning backlit with spring sunshine. It is excellent for borders near the lime green foliage of newly emerging herbaceous plants.

The lily flower tulip west point, which grows to 50cm, bridges the seasons between mid and late spring. The vivid yellow petals are exquisitely pointed, and the flowers look dramatic with strong yellows, red or blues but also look wonderful with soft grey foliage plants. Tulip is one of the most beautiful spring bulbs with flowers gracefully poised and petals intricately marked.

Buying Newborn Supplies on Craigslist

Are you looking to purchase newborn supplies for your toddler? Chances are high that you might find and like a great deal of kid stuff such as cribs, beds, toys, swings, highchairs, and so on. Many parents wish to sell the stuff their own kids have outgrown to others for a cheaper rate. To ensure you get the best deal, read on.

Whenever you find something that you like, immediately perform an online search on the product using its brand name and model number. Find out if the baby furniture that you are buying is truly friendly to your baby, since babies easily get injured.

The online verification also helps in finding out the actual price of the baby stuff. Most of the parents on Craigslist are honest about the cost. However, you can never rule out the few tricksters who might cheat you if you are not watching your back carefully. Used stuff usually cost half of the actual cost.

It is always sensible to buy baby things in bulk since there is a greater chance of obtaining discounts that way. It is also easier since many parents sell their baby's older stuffs in bulk on Craigslist, so that they may get more room for buying new supplies.

It is not advisable for pregnant women to meet sellers alone to pick up goods since it is risky for them in this crime filled world. So, why not sit in the comfort of your home and shop online with help of Craigslist and other such sites.

How to Throw a Memorable Baby Shower

The anticipated arrival of a new baby is a very exciting time for families. Not only are the expectant parents thrilled, but friends and family cannot wait to welcome a new person to their world. Arranging a baby shower for your friend or family member who is expecting a baby is a wonderful idea. A baby shower is a special time for the expectant mother as she feels loved and will be the center of attention.

Once the decision has been made to throw a shower, invitations must be made or purchased and sent out to the people on the guest list. Next, food and entertainment has to be planned and baby shower favors must be purchased. A baby shower favor is nothing more than a gift that is given to each of the guests to thank them for their participation. Baby shower favors can be chosen according to the theme of the shower if desired. These gifts can consist of soaps, candy, lotions, or baked goods for example. The sky is the limit when it comes to baby shower favors.

Frankly speaking, many women are not all that thrilled to receive an invitation to a shower. Many baby showers are dull, uneventful and boring. If you want to throw a baby shower that will long be remembered, be sure to put your creativity to work. Plan games that the guests will enjoy partaking in and be sure to offer prizes to the winners.

Having creative and pretty baby shower decorations can add so much to the party. These decorations do not have to be expensive and they can most certainly be handmade. A few well-placed banners, streamers, and colorful balloons can create a fun atmosphere.

If you want to truly impress the mother-to-be and the guests, consider diaper cakes. A diaper cake is not only practical but it is a unique gift idea that can be the centerpiece on the gift table. Diaper cakes are a must-have for all new moms and the new mother will be able to use everything that is in the cake. The cake is not 'edible' but it is 'incredible' as it is created with layers of premium disposable diapers and filled with usable and practical items for the new baby. Diaper cakes can be purchased online, or if you or your friends are creative, you can build your own.

In conclusion, the ideal shower consists of well thought out baby favors, games and decorations. There is no reason to throw a dull shower. With just a bit of planning and preparation you can host a shower that will have the guests raving about it for months after.

What Does "Inducing Labor" Mean?

Today inducing labor at the hospital has become a common medical intervention. Pregnant women are prescribed pharmaceutical labor inducing remedies as early as 37 weeks of their pregnancy, sometimes resulting in premature babies. Due to the risks labor induction has for the mother and the baby, labor should be induced only when there is solid and well studied reason for it.

Sometimes labor that doesn't seem to start spontaneously after forty or forty-two full weeks of pregnancy. That is why some selected methods can be used to encourage the labor to start. In general, your OB or midwife can induce labor using medications or other techniques in order to cause the uterus to contract. Currently, one out of every five births in the U.S. are induced by medical induction - and others are induced naturally, using methods that are thought to be safer for both mother and baby.

Why Would Labor Be Induced?

There are various reasons that an induction of labor might be warranted, including:

?Your OB or midwife feels that you have gone too far past your due date (usually, no longer than two weeks past the estimated date of delivery is acceptable). Carrying the baby longer than is necessary puts the mother and the baby at greater risk of problems, including stillbirth. Additionally, bigger babies can cause prolonged or stalled labor and increase the incidence of cesarean section deliveries.

?The bag of waters erupts but labor fails to start. Once your water has broken, if labor doesn't start on its own, then infection can occur in the baby and in your uterus.

?Diagnostic tests show that your placenta is not functioning properly any more, there is inadequate amniotic fluid present, or the baby does not appear to be thriving as he should.

?If you develop preeclampsia, which is a serious danger to your health that can also restrict the blood flow that the baby receives.

?If you have high blood pressure, kidney disease, diabetes, or another medical condition that can threaten the health of your baby or your own health.

?If you have experienced a stillbirth at full term before.

What Happens When Inducing Labor?

When inducing labor occurs in a hospital, mostly synthetic pharmaceuticals are used. Medical labor induction works to soften (or efface) the surface and dilate the cervix. Typically, medical labor inductions use drugs through IV infusion that are supposed to speed up labor, such as Pitocin.

Other medical inductions for labor include prostaglandin gels that are applied to the cervix to cause it to thin or dilate more readily; inserting a Foley catheter into the cervix to put pressure on the cervix, which causes the body to release natural prostaglandins that cause the cervix to open; or rupturing the membranes, which involves manually breaking your bag of waters.

Medical inductions are (for the most part) very invasive and really detract from the natural experience of birth. Some of them can be risky for the baby and for the mother, as well. For example, Pitocin use has been shown to cause placental abruption or uterine rupture in some pregnant women, and result in C-section, especially in women who are giving birth for the first time.

How About Inducing Labor Naturally? Does Natural Labor Induction Methods Work?

There are many natural labor induction methods that can allow a woman to avoid the possible dangers of medical induction, including maternity acupressure. Maternity acupressure has been used by women in other countries for centuries and is now finding its way into Western society.

Maternity acupressure relies on the use of pressure applied to pressure points around the pregnant mother's body - either by the pregnant woman or by her labor coach or partner - to bring about labor. Maternity acupressure is effective for many women, and is considered to be a safe alternative to medical labor induction when inducing labor is necessary.

Child Behavior Issues - Correcting Three Common Problems of Child Behavior

Most child behavior issues are actually much more common than parents may think. Often, a parent will think there is something wrong with their child because they are acting out and throwing temper tantrums. However, especially in children ages 2 though 5, there are several very common behavioral issues, and they can be corrected easily.

Lets take a look at three common problems of child behavior.

  1. Child biting others as a sign of acting out or when upset - Commonly a toddler aged child will result to biting others as a sign of being upset or craving attention. This behavior can be triggered by almost any circumstance. The behavior can be troublesome and even dangerous when the act is done against other children.
  2. Child screams loudly for extended period of time - This behavior trait is a clear sign of wanting attention from parents. The child is relating experience as a baby when crying meant getting attention to screaming to get attention or get what they want. This behavior is common in public places, as the child is not acclimated to public settings and can be easily frightened by the unknown and unfamiliar surroundings.
  3. Child hitting others, parents included - By hitting others, the child is outwardly expressing feelings of anger and being upset. Most children that are toddler aged are not yet developed enough to understand proper ways to resolving conflict, and will act through physical violence to get attention.

These child behavior issues are quite common, however they can be solved and overcome quickly and easily if you know the right steps to take.

Christmas Trees - Decorating With a Difference

The Christmas Tree is the central point of your decorations so why not try something different this year. How about going for one of the new 'Upside down' trees? These are designed to hang from the ceiling, so you can only really do it with an artificial tree as a fresh one wouldn't survive for long, and you would be cleaning up needles for forever and a day. If you are thinking about having one of these, do be sure you identify the space where you're going to put it first as you need to have moving around space in your room. They can be very effective hanging in a stair well, and they are unlikely to knock anybody's head off there.

I like to do something a little unusual with the ornaments too, you can go with traditional baubles and decorations, but how about going with a color theme, just one or two colors that you can link together with ribbons in a matching shade. Over the years we have bought special personalized Christmas gifts of baubles with family and friends names on them. We all get together to dress the tree and each person gets to position their own ornament; it's an extra excuse to get together for a party at Christmas.

If you need a tree that doesn't take up too much space, you can go for a corner tree. I really like these, they are designed to fit into the corner of a room so that they take up minimal space but still look like a fantastic tree. They give the impression of being a great deal bigger than they really are. Then there are the colored trees which make no effort to pretend that they are real, white, silver, gold, even reds and purples can be used to blend in with your decor and taste.

You can use ribbons in lots of ways on your tree, either as garlands or to create hangers for your decorations. I like to make a few bows and rosettes too. Red and Gold, Green and Silver are both lovely color combinations or you could go for a rich purple and gold. Though we traditionally 'dress' the tree in baubles, gold and sparkling lights you could go for a more natural look and use swags of cloth with pine cones, fruits, nuts and berries to give accents of color and make your tree look festive.

Something I like to do is put a large glass globe on the top of the tree with a light inside it. This gives a real 'star' effect, especially if the globe you use has stars engraved on it. You could use all kinds of things on the top of the tree, instead of the traditional star - a favorite toy can participate in the celebrations on top the tree, just make sure it isn't too heavy. We always put the lights on the tree first, then add the decorations so that they make the most of the tree. Smaller lights in just one color are much more elegant if you want a themed look, if you like your trees to look like a box of rich jewels, then lots of colors twinkling amidst the branches look good.

Whatever you decide to do with the tree, make sure it fits in with your idea of Christmas. The tree is such an significant part of your Christmas celebrations, it should be your idea of Christmas for you and your family, not a picture perfect interior design.

The Bighearted Don't Bully

This is a current yet age old problem that is often overlooked or not taken seriously enough. Yet over and over again it has been proven to have deadly consequences and leave lasting, disabling and traumatic damage to many people in many different ways.

The safest way to protect yourself and the ones you love is by education and at an early age. Children learn by example, so choose to be a good role model. There is no better lesson than tolerance.

Even with the best guidance and direction, your child may still fall victim to bullying behavior. The old proverb, "an eye for an eye," may be tempting but almost always leads to accelerated aggression and actions.

Teach your child to tell someone. A teacher, parent, mentor, family member etc. These are the people closest in your child's life and with the authority and ability to end such behavior.

Encourage your child to express themselves in writing, drawing, dance or any activity that encourages self esteem and self expression.

Suggest any kind of team activity. This will surround your child with others with similar interests and create a common bond and team spirit attitude.

Practice good communication skills and promote empathy and understanding.

When faced with this problem, stress the fact that the deficiency lies in their aggressor and not within. This is a good time for the simple reminder that their tormentor is most likely an unhappy or troubled person and to understand that is not a lack in their own self for the attack but rather that of the bully.

Surround your child with positive people and positive things. Whatever form that may take for each individual.

Push for education on this topic in the classroom and suggest a classroom or school wide campaign on anti-bullying. Let the students get creative and create their own sayings, slogans or logos. This is a fun and non-obtrusive way of making bullying "uncool" and letting the children take charge of their own personal growth and safety.

Remember,
Change Starts Within.

Different Ways to Create Your Own Mini Herb Garden

If you love the color green, and enjoy plants, then giving yourself permission to create an herb garden would be a great way to develop a hobby that you would reap benefits from. Planting herbs is not only easy to do, but once you get going you will find a variety of ways to have fun with it. Just remember the beginning work of growing herbs requires some dedication and patience if you want good results from your efforts. Besides being interesting, it is also inexpensive to create and could even help lower your food expenses if you like to use herbs for flavoring in the meals you cook, because you will be growing them right there in your own yard or kitchen.

Before actually planting your herb garden, you will want to consider what might be the best locations for your herbs to grow. Obviously you have the options of growing them inside your home or outside. Either of these locations will require adequate sunlight, good soil, plenty of water, and the convenience of being able to tend to them as they are growing.

An outdoor herb garden will be dependent on how good the soil is that is already there, and the herbs themselves could be easily placed among your other plants. If you go with a mini garden just outside the house, near your kitchen door, it will usually take a small amount of ground and you only need to plant the herbs you use on regular basis. It is a wise idea to plant 2 of each herb you have chosen because this will assure you of having enough of the herbs you would use a lot once you get them to start growing. Not only will you be reaping the benefits of having fresh herbs available, but they create a beautiful decoration in and around your flower beds.

Most herbs will grow in either full or partial sunlight, so you always have the option of using your flowering plants as a top cover so they will not be too exposed. There are definite advantages to having a mini herb garden inside as well. When planting the herbs for an indoor mini garden, you can choose to use circular pots or rectangular ones, which depends basically on the way you intend to plant them. Be sure to use soil that is healthy and recommended for herbs, as well as adding fertilizer to the dirt to strengthen the root systems of the herbs you have chosen to plant. What is fun about doing an indoor herb garden is the ability to plant a variety of herbs all in just one pot. All you have to make sure of is that you plant your herbs that will grow and compliment each other close together. When you choose to grow a variety at the same time, you end up saving space as well as having an ample supply of the herbs you will be using in cooking or decoration.

Your efforts in getting your herbs planted and growing will reward you in several ways. Once they are up and growing, you will have time to relax and know you can bring a new taste to your meals because of your multitude of choices of the many herbs you have planted, and all you have to do is step outside and get them. Not only is this a fulfilling hobby, but you get to enjoy the flavorful herbs you love.

Donæ° Risk Your Babyæ¯ Life, Get the Right Car Safety Seat

Start looking at baby car seats well before your baby is born. You don抰 want to get caught out if your baby is born preterm. You抣l need a baby car seat before you leave hospital.

Every year thousands of young children loose their lives or sustain serious injuries which could have been prevented if through the correct use of car seats and safety belts.

When choosing a baby car seat don抰 make your decision based on price alone, all seats available to purchase in the USA meet very strict safety standards but added features in higher price baby car seats may make them easier to use (thus avoiding fitting errors) or even safer than the cheaper options.

Always use a car safety seat that is the right size for your baby, infant or child. You will need to change your car safety seat as they grow.

The safest place for your baby / child to ride is in the back and you must never place your baby in a rear facing baby seat in the front of a vehicle with a passenger air bag.

For all car safety seats make sure you follow the manufacturer抯 instructions to the letter. Ensuring your baby抯 safety while traveling is an essential part of baby care and it is not something over which you should become complacent.

For newborn babies and babies up to around 15 months use a rear-facing car safety seat. How to Use Roses in Your Garden

Roses, as the most popular type of flowering plant going these days, are, quite literally, everywhere. Nine out of ten gardens will have some form of rose somewhere within them and their uses are almost as many as the colors they come in. Whether you choose climbing roses, hybrid teas, floribundas or the always popular miniature roses, rest assured that each will have a proper function as part of your garden's ecosystem and set up. Too, there are a number of roses for every climate and condition, so wherever you are, you'll be able to find a rose that suits your needs.

Rose Color
The most obvious use for roses has to do with color. Although it has been touted that different color roses symbolize different things, you need not get hung up on the color meaning of roses. Most gardeners design their gardens around chromatic themes (or simply pick the colors they think look best), leading to them choosing the breed and type of rose more for hue than anything else. Roses come in many different colors-red, pink, white, black, blue, orange-so whatever color you have in mind, a rose will most likely be able to do the job. But make sure that the colors you choose are complimentary to the rest of your garden. There's nothing worse than your roses being lost in the shuffle of colors.

Covering Bare Space
Too, roses are perfect for covering bare spaces along walls, benches, pillars, trellises or any number of garden structures. Climbing roses of all descriptions are perfect for this. And, in a space-limited environment like many backyard gardens, climbing roses can also provide some much needed color in surprising places. Climbing roses are among the most easily trainable of roses and can be used to great creative effect with time and patience.

Landscaping
In fact, roses of all types are easy to shape and control, which is another bonus for the creative gardener. If you need landscaping plants - plants that can provide living boundaries for the rest of your garden, or even ornamental decoration - then roses are probably your best bet. Hardy and resilient, roses can survive any number of maulings, whether through the attentions of an inexperienced gardener or Mother Nature, and they take to being shaped well. As background plants, they excel in causing other types of flowers to 'pop' as well. Essentially, roses can be used to compliment any decorating scheme.

Compliments
Regardless of why you plan on using roses, there are a few factors to be aware of. When you choose a rose to go in your garden, make sure it compliments the surrounding landscape of your garden. You don't want to pick the wrong color or type to go in the space you've chosen.

In the end, it's the enormous versatility of the rose which makes it so popular amongst gardeners and landscapers. Roses can be used in a variety of ways, they come in many colors and have a wide range of uses, all of which add up to make the rose a staple plant in any gardeners arsenal. Roses can make any garden, any home more elegant and beautiful with just a bit of care.

Does Your Halloween Costume Reveal Your Hidden Personality?

Most of us think of dressing up at Halloween as just a bit of fun, but did you know that your choice of Halloween costume can reveal your personality. Maybe the character mask you put on reveals more about you than it hides! What did you wear last year? Were you a Superhero or maybe a Sexy Siren? Or did you dress-up like a cartoon character or a famous murderer?

All of these can reveal personality traits:

1. If you dress up as a particular person, unrelated to Halloween, you could be playing it safe and staying within your comfort zone.

2. If you go for a very sexy costume, unlike anything you would normally wear, maybe you are repressing a sexual side to your nature.

3. Do you like to be Spiderman, Batman or another Superhero? Then you have a childlike fantasy of fighting to make the world a better place. You also may have a secret desire to be admired and looked up to.

4. Dressing up in a Fairy Princess or Peter Pan costume can indicate your desire to 'never grow up'.

5. Animal costumes represent your wanting to have the instincts and characteristics of whatever animal you choose. For example being a cat can mean you like your independence or maybe your wish for freedom that you don't have.

6. Dressing as a vampire, witch or ghoul can have two different meanings. As these are the traditional costumes associated with Halloween it can indicate a love of tradition and of sticking to the 'rules'. Alternatively, if you like to wear scary costumes in can mean you have a desire to get in touch with your darker side.

Whatever you like to wear for Halloween, the most important thing is that you and your kids enjoy it!

Month of Good Will and Winter Holidays

December, month of good will and winter holidays. December makes it appearance as the grand climax of the year, the most awaited season of festivities with joy and good will! It represents a bonanza for article writers. The rush of buying or making gifts for family and friends, the delight of putting up a Christmas tree and spreading cheer with decorations, remembering the birth of Jesus, and the singing of carols. Writers can distill into timely features of our different customs and culture, religious and otherwise, that surround the season highlighted by Santa Claus' visits on Christmas eve and the celebration of Christmas day. December introduces the winter season, along with the wide variety of winter/snow sports, and snowfalls and ice storms can transform cities and farms into the fabled winter wonderland, a continual wave of activities that fairly beg for feature treatment. Then on the new years eve families assemble for a fond farewell to the old year and a toast of anticipation to the new. As for writers, you and I, we make open resolutions to write and sell more stories.

While Christmas dominates December, special days begin with Pan American Health Day, set by presidential proclamation, and proceed through the month with such observances as Heart Transplant Day, Pearl Harbor Day, Human Rights Day, Boston Tea Party Day, Wright Brothers Day, Forefathers' Day, International Arbor Day, and Louisiana Purchase Day. A number of states, including Illinois, Indiana, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Iowa, Texas, Delaware, and Mississippi observe Admission Day, in recognition of gaining statehood. December brings the birth anniversaries of Presidents Martin Van Buren, Andrew Johnson, and Woodrow Wilson. In the literary world Noel Coward, Maxwell Anderson, Joseph Conrad, Willa Cather, Joyce Kilmer, Jane Austen, John Greenleaf Whittier, John Milton, and Rudyard Kipling were born in December. Other notables with December birthdays have been Admiral George Dewey, George Armstrong Custer, George C. Marshall, Kit Carson, and Billy Mitchell of fighting fame; Louis Pasteur, Eli Whitney, Charles Goodyear, and Harvey S. Firestone, contributors of scientific progress; and also James Oglethorpe, Joseph Smith, Edwin W. Staunton, Ludwig van Beethoven, Gilbert Stuart, and Clara Barton, the "angel of the battlefield."

From the arrival of the Pilgrims on the New Continent to the birth of powered flight on the sand dunes of North Carolina and the utilization of atomic energy for electricity, the December chart of historical events abounds in a wide variety of article subjects:

1. Pilgrims stepped ashore at Plymouth Rock, 1620
2. Colonists staged Boston Tea Party, 1773
3. George Washington troops won Battle of Trenton, 1776
4. George Washington died at Mount Vernon at the age of sixty seven, 1799
5. France sold the Louisiana Territory to the United States, 1803
6. War of 1812 ended with signing of the Treaty of Ghent, 1814
7. President James Monroe gave the world the Monroe Doctrine, 1823
8. Wooden golf tree invented in Boston, Massachusetts, 1899
9. Wright Brothers opened Age of Aviation with first heavier-than-air flight at Kitty Hawk, 1903
10. Nobel Prize awarded President Theodore Roosevelt, 1906
11. Jerusalem fell to British, 1917
12. Twenty-first Amendment, which repealed prohibition, added to constitution, 1933
13. Fire at Iroquois Theater in Chicago took 639 lives, 1933
14. Japanese aircraft attacked Pearl Harbor on day that will "live in infamy," 1941
15. United States produced electricity from atomic energy for first time, at Reactor Testing Station in Idaho, 1951.
In conclusion, even if it is an old news from our archives, it will still be a very good and much sought after topics of articles.

Football Crazy Wall Clock

Do you know someone who is football crazy? Is your Dad a footy nut? Is your brother a soccer Fanatic? This is possibly the bestest Crimbo pressie you can make them. You can make it fit any football team of your choosing, or add an assortment of football teams. You could also adapt this idea to make a net-ball, basketball, or rugby clock.

To make a Football Crazy Wall Clock you will need...

Paint, thick card or an old grocery box, a clock mechanism and clock hands (you will find these at craft shops) and a print out of pattern of football shirts which is available at the link below.

Colour the football shirts in the team抯 strip you choose. You can colour them randomly if you wish. Number each shirt 1 to 12.

To make the clock face, draw around a large dinner plate or a tea tray onto some card. An old grocery box is great. Cut out two identical circles, and glue them together so that the lines in the cards structure cross, this will give the clock face extra strength.

Once the glue is dry, paint the clock face green. Again leave to dry. With white paint, paint on a centre line through the middle of the clock face, and paint a kick off circle in the middle of the clock.

Push a pencil through the centre of the clock face ready to attach the clock mechanism. Be very careful and use the old Plasticine trick - Put a ball of Plasticine on the table, put your card on top of it where you need the hole to be, and push the pencil through the card and into the Plasticine.

Arrange the football shirts on the clock face and stick them down.

Push the clock spindle through the hole and push on the hands. The mechanism has a hole for hanging the clock on the wall.

Put a battery in the clock and set the time.

About Emotional Child Abuse And Neglect

Any child who experience any form of physical or emotional maltreatment is likely to bear emotional scars. For this reason it is necessary to use the following broad definition. A child is emotionally abused if he/she is:

(1.) Under the age 18

(2.) Subjected to non-accidental, serious physical or mental injury, sexual abuse or exploitation

(3.) He/she undergoes serious physical or emotional neglect caused by acts or omissions of the child鈥檚 parents or other persons responsible for the child鈥檚 welfare.

It is important to note that there are also other forms of child abuse as well. Emotional or psychological abuse is the least understood and hardest to prove form of child abuse though. Nevertheless, emotional child abuse and neglect may be the most common and damaging forms of child abuse.

It is generally agreed that a child suffering in any of the following areas may be a victim of emotional neglect:

(1.) Inadequate physical care

(2.) Absence of medical attention

(3.) Inadequate medical care.

(4.) Cruel or abusive treatment

(5.) Improper supervision

(6.) Exploitation of the child鈥檚 earning capacity

(7.) Unlawfully keeping the child out of school

(8.) Exposing the child to criminal or immoral influences that endanger her/his morals.

You must understand that any type of child abuse, such as physical or sexual abuse, can also involve emotional abuse or neglect. 90% of the time, parents are responsible for committing child abuse, including emotional abuse and neglect. Fathers and mothers are nearly equally responsible for committing emotional child abuse and neglect. Of course, caretakers and other family members can also commit emotional child abuse and neglect.

The reasons why parents emotionally abuse their children are many and complex. Mostly because parents have different circumstances and personalities, and children vary widely in their health and behavior. Most neglectful parents are isolated and have difficulty forming relationships or performing the routine tasks of daily life. Many of these parents are also burdened by anger and sadness because of unmet childhood needs and difficult current circumstances. Due to all of these reasons, neglectful parents find it hard to constantly recognize and meet the needs of his/her children.

Here are some common traits and themes that are found within most neglectful parents:

(1.) Most neglectful parents are unable to plan.

(2.) Most neglectful parents are indifferent to their behavior toward their children.

(3.) Most neglectful parents lack knowledge about how to meet their children鈥檚 needs.

(4.) Most neglectful parents have had unhappy childhoods.

(5.) Many neglectful parents are experiencing financial or emotional stress.

(6.) Many neglectful parents are socially isolated and have few or no friends and little contact with relatives.

It is true that in many cases, unhappy parents project their day-to-day frustrations onto their children.

Bounce House Inflatables Can Pump Up Your Company Picnic

Now is the time of year when a lot of companies are planning their annual family picnic. You might be thinking, what can we do this year to make the picnic a little better than last year. Of course you will have the usual barbeque chicken, hot dogs and hamburgers. You will more than likely have the traditional potato sack race, but what if this year you came up with something a little more exciting, something like and inflatable bounce house?

The company family picnic is a time for the families of the company to come together and get a little closer. The bounce house will do just that for the kids that come.

Children love the activity of jumping up and down in a bounce house. They love the bigness of the structures, and they love the colors. Once they enter, it is hard to get them out, and at the end of the day they have had more fun then ever and will always remember that.

There are other types of inflatables that are also a fabulous idea to have at a company picnic. A big favorite are the giant clear plastic inflatable spheres. These are fast moving balls that are propelled by the participant's movement. They are the perfect alternative to the boring potato sack relay race. They can also be used for solo fun.

You can also erect and inflatable soccer field complete with soft walls, and bouncy goal posts. The soccer games will go on all day, and soccer moms will feel right at home.

It will probably be a warm day when your company picnic day arrives. Why not have a mega water slide? These inflatables will keep the kids cool while they play and are the perfect answer when your location does not have a pool.

If your location is large enough and your budget allows for several units, you can make the inflatables the theme for your picnic. Inflatables are things that get pumped up and your picnic can be a fun way to pump up the motivation of the staff.

Many inflatables come in different themes such as island and safari. Consider the possibilities of using the inflatables to create an atmosphere. A tropical inflatable bounce house with a big wave water slide could create the perfect environment to accompany barbequed Hawaiian chicken or Jamaican Jerk.

An elephant water slide and a lion bounce house would be the perfect match for an African safari picnic. The possibilities are as endless as the choices in inflatables.

What ever you choose, a bounce house, a water slide, or personal spheres, inflatables will make your company picnic a big hit, and the staff will talk about it and will anxiously look forward the next one.

Candle Making For Beginners

When you make candles for the first time, you will have a memorable experience. Everyone enjoys candles. You can use candles in a variety of ways to decorate your home. Making candles as a beginner can be done simply through the use of some everyday kitchen utensils and equipment.

To start you can use the two most common ingredients: paraffin wax or beeswax. Paraffin is often the preferred ingredient since it is cheaper. However, if you have the money for beeswax this option provides you with a smoother texture.

For dyes you can simply use food coloring since most people have this on hand and if not it is easy to purchase at any grocery store. Simply add the dye coloring at the beginning of the process and then mix thoroughly with the wax while melting.

The only thing you have to purchase extra when making candles is the essential oils used for scent. Common essential oils used for candle making include lavender, jasmine, lemon and Citronella. However, there are a number of scents you can choose from. Simply choose a scent that pleases you and then add it just before the wax mixture starts to cool. If you add the oils when the wax is at a high temperature you can cause them to evaporate.

Next, you simply pour the melted wax mixture in a mould of your choice. For a cheap alternative to buying molds at the craft store, you can simply use empty soda cans, yogurt boxes, milk cartons or any other wax lined container you may have in your house.

If you don't have a mould, you can use the old-fashioned dipping process to make your candle. With this method, you use a taut wick and repeatedly dip it into the melted wax until you achieve an appropriate thickness.

A unique option to consider is to use sheets of wax and roll them into candles. When you roll different colored wax sheets together, you can get a rich color combination for your finished product. The advantage of using this method is that it doesn't require a lot of heating.

Yet another choice for those new to candle making is the sand wax candle. You can mix wax powders without having to melt them. The combination of wax powder is then placed in a suitable container in order to make your preferred candle.

Making candles can be the perfect way to provide a wonderful gift to someone on special occasions. This is often the main reason why many get into the candle-making field. Others choose to make candles because it provides them pleasure.

If you go to a store, you will see a wide variety of candles being sold and often they can be quite expensive. This is another good reason to try your hand at candle making. There are many online starter kits that can help you quickly get started with candle making. Consider some tips below that you can use as a beginner to candle making.

First, you have to find the materials you need. You can look for these online or in specialty shops. Often a craft store will have all the supplies you need. These stores are also a good idea since they provide a wide selection of waxes and moulds as well as the standard equipment you will need like thermometers, wooden spoons and a double boiler.

Once you have all your materials ready you can prepare the wax. First, you need to break it into small portions. While doing this you should use the double boiler to boil some water. Once the water has boiled, you can add the waxes. Use the candle thermometer to make sure the mixture reaches 160 degrees.

Next, is the process of adding colors and scents. This can be the most difficult process for beginners and requires individuals to follow some specific instructions. When the mixture is close to done you can add your preferred scent and color. Perspective is key and you should only add a few drops of coloring.

Now you need to prepare the wick by cutting it into pieces based on your desired candle length. Dip the wick several times in the wax and then allow it to cool. Repeat this process until you have the desired candle size.

Lastly, once the candle has cooled completely you can trim the wick and enjoy your lovely new candle the process you just took to make your beautiful and wonderful scented candle.

Sharing the Load of Parenting With Your Spouse

When you start a family, it is always surprising to find out how much time and energy it takes to keep up with the children. There are always more chores to be done, diapers to change, and the children can be very demanding at times. The best solution to get through the child-rearing years is to have a good working relationship with your spouse so that you can share the duties together.

One of the biggest complaints by mothers is that they are constantly picking up after their children-- and their husbands! It is important that both parents work together to clean up toys, blankets and bedding, dirty dishes and food. 5 minutes of a quick clean up can really make a big difference in the comfort and stress level of your home.

Make sure that each parent has their own person time without the children. Although it may seem that your household and children need care and attention 24 hours a day, it is still important to take some time for yourself when you can do what you want to do without having to worry about the kids. Talk with your spouse and schedule personal time for each of you, even write it on the calendar so that it is a commitment that you need to follow. Make sure that you spouse knows when the time is scheduled so that they can care for the children while you are taking your own time.

Share the duties between mom and dad. Too many families get stuck in the rut of always following the same chores, and 1 parent can quickly get burned out if they are doing all of the dirty work. Discuss what needs to be done and split up the work evenly so that you are working together as a team.

As you work together to manage your household and raise your kids you will find that you have more satisfaction in being a parent and you will also have a better relationship with your spouse.

Proven Ways to Save $100's on Your Heating Bill That 95% of Us Are Not Aware Of!

Winter is here! It's cold and if you are up north by where I live in Milwaukee the snow is blowing and it has already gotten below 0. And our heating bills are rising. Fortunately there are a lot of things we can do to reduce our energy consumption both now and in the summer when it is hot and we are spending our money on air conditioning bills. Most of us have already invested lot in energy efficiency from energy efficient windows, furnaces, air conditioners, refrigerators, etc.; the list goes on and on. However there is still one thing you can do to even further significantly reduce your energy efficiency in a serious way and it is something that most of us are not aware of and have never thought of.

Studies conducted show that strategic landscaping around its exterior can provide savings of up to 30 percent on heating costs and between 50 and 75 percent on air conditioning. The basic idea behind energy-efficient landscaping is to plant deciduous trees to block the summer sun and evergreen trees to block winter winds. Closely spaced evergreens with dense foliage all the way to the ground, such as blue spruce, make the best windblocks. In Wisconsin we have very strong Westerly winds that howl at speeds of excess of sometimes more than 50 mph. A windblock can cut wind velocity up to 80 percent, which can mean real savings on your heating bill. Protection from the hot sun on the roof and east/west sides of a home by landscaping with Shade Trees creates a significant cooling effect on the home.

Plant trees with a higher crown nearer to the house (but not on top of it) so it can shade the roof and trees with a lower canopy are useful to block the afternoon blinding sun as it sets on the west side of a home. Also by shading your air condition unit you can reclaim up to 10% more energy efficiency. One other thing to consider is that planting shrubs and bushes next to the home will help to insulate your home year round. To be most effective, a landscape plan should be tailored to your climate.
