How to Discipline Extreme Temper Tantrums

Most children know how to push their parents' buttons to get what they want. Throwing extreme temper tantrums is their way of taking control and do they want. Let's look at why they throw such extreme tantrums. To really understand why they throw such a fit, you need to put yourself in their place.

A toddler has an intense desire to do things their way; however their mental and motor skills have developed more quickly than their ability to communicate because they don't yet have the verbal skills required to express their frustration. So to a toddler, throwing a tantrum will get them what they want.

There are two tantrums flavors. One is manipulative tantrums and the other is the frustration tantrums. Knowing these facts as parents, you cannot afford to be volatile in anyway because it will be a screaming match with no winners.

What do you do when those extreme tantrums arise? The first thing is to stay calm even if your child is kicking and screaming at the top of their lung. Next you want to go down to their level and have eye contact and speak with authority let your child know that you will not listen to anything they have to say as long as they keep behaving that way and that behavior is not acceptable, then walk away.

Your child will test you and scream and kick even more but you need to stand your ground and sit him down no matter how many times they repeat this behavior. After a while your child will get that mommy means business and won't back down on her words.

Christmas Celebrations - All About Designer Stuff and Little Else

The idea of simple family celebrations exists no more. Christmas has become synonymous with designer stuff spanning from clothes to even Christmas tree decor.

Christmas celebrations have become more of designer oriented theme parties where ladies and gentlemen flaunt their latest designer possessions.

Branded Haute Clothes

Forget about identical Siamese twins dressing the same or even colorful sweaters. Now, people prefer to flaunt their labels and the moolah they have paid. In the conversations during the Christmas meal too, the whole aim of the conversations is to belittle other relatives. Christmas has degenerated to more of a designer labels celebration where people flaunt their hot pants and cocktail dresses due to the labels.

Sushi, Swarovski Et al

Forget about the traditional meal of roasted meat and muffins. Now even the Christmas meal has an exotic element attached to it. Sushi and designer restaurants sporting tofu and wasabi top the list. Expensive wine and cocktails have become the favorites of the day, replacing the traditional and the simple ales and ginger lime. On the dining table, instead of the frill decoration, Swarovski enchant the d閏or. The whole idea remains to show off.

All That Jazz

Christmas carols can be heard only on the roads and shopping malls. Gone are the days when people called little carol singers at home and showered them with little but precious Christmas gifts. Now this trend is overshadowed by professional bands that are called upon to sing for a wider segment of guests. Since Christmas meals have become more associated with socializing, traditions are taking a backseat.

Expensive Custom Made Gifts

A simple soft toy or shawl was earlier considered an apt gift. No longer, though. People today get their kick only from custom made single piece gifts from high end designers and flagships stores. Not only it is an expensive affair but it also effectively kills the simplicity of Christmas. Often business houses prefer to get custom made pen stands, diamond engraved pens, jewel pieces et al.

Go Simple And Spread Happiness

There is no point flaunting the designer possessions during Christmas. It is a festival considered to bring together the family and pals even though they are settled in different parts of the world. The cooking and eating together is a ritual that increases the family bonding.

Instead of the expensive flaunting business, keep the celebrations focused on personal touch. You can gift a bouquet of fresh flowers especially lilac orchids and attach a personal note.

In case you wish to add some glam effect to your gifts, do not forget to send a bunch of fresh alliums and roses to your loved ones.

Let Christmas be the celebration of the almighty rather than a fair for pride and prejudice.

How to Choose a Vehicle For Your Teen Driver

A small, sporty vehicle might be exactly what your teen wants - but it's also the most dangerous for your teen to drive. The sense of invincibility and impulsive, risky behavior characteristic of many teens is just one of the reasons you'll want to select a different type of vehicle when the time comes.

Whatever vehicle your teen drives, the first years after licensure are high-risk. In fact, teen drivers have the highest death rates in car crashes of any age group. Motor vehicle crashes are the number one cause of death among Americans aged 15-20. In addition to the teenage drivers who are killed, 64% of the 13-19 year-olds who die as passengers are killed when a teen driver is behind the wheel (which means that you should also take an interest in what your teen's friends are driving).

And some cars are simply more deadly than others. According to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, small sports cars such as the Ford Mustang, the Chevrolet Corvette, and the Pontiac Sunfire have the highest death rates in crashes.

Ask your teen to join you in checking out insurance rates for the vehicle she or he wants. Explain that adding the teen to your policy will raise your rates no matter what she or he is driving, but the rates are much higher for vehicles considered high-risk.

Some parents, swinging to the other end of the pendulum, think an ancient clunker shaped like a tank would be safest for their teens. But experts demur, for two main reasons. First, the poor acceleration power of an older vehicle both makes it more difficult for teens to accelerate in some driving situations, such as lane changes and highway merges, and tempts them to simply drive faster to make up the difference in accelerating power. Second, older vehicles don't have the benefit of modern safety features, such as airbags and electronic stability control.

So, with these two vehicle types out of the question, how do you select a safe car for your child?

First, consider size. A mid- or larger-size car could mean the difference between life and death in a crash. Though that's true for drivers and passengers of all ages, it's especially true for teens because of the high likelihood of driver error, which often leads to a crash.

Former National Highway Traffic Safety Administration chief Jeffrey Runge, a former emergency room physician, recommends vehicles weighing at least 3,300 pounds for teen drivers. This is a good guideline for parents who are unsure of which vehicle class to shop in for their teen's car.

Some parents decide a very large vehicle is best and buy an SUV for their teens to drive. However, most safety experts think this is a mistake, for three reasons. SUVs have a high center of gravity and thus are more likely to roll over than other vehicles. Drivers aged 16 to 20 are more than twice as likely to be involved in a rollover in an SUV than older drivers. Second, SUVs can be challenging to handle in an emergency, making them a better choice for those with more driving experience than teens. And SUVs carry more passengers, which make the vehicle more unstable and can be highly distracting for a teen driver.

Crash protection is another important consideration in the selection of a vehicle for your child. Unfortunately, your teen might be involved in a crash despite your best efforts to prevent it. You want the best collision protection possible if that occurs. Here are some of the safety options to consider.

Vehicles with side airbags that protect the head and chest in addition to front driver and passenger side airbags should be considered. You'll have to do some research, because not all car manufacturers approach this the same way. Your budget may influence your choices, since some airbags, especially the side-curtain type, are optional in many cars.

Research electronic stability control as well, which may be called different things by different manufacturers. This feature helps drivers maintain control of their vehicles during extreme steering maneuvers. Many teens overcorrect in emergency driving situations, so it may be well worth it.

Anti-lock brakes (ABS) also allow a driver to maintain control of the steering during emergency braking situations. In a driving emergency, your teen will need to know how to use anti-lock brakes for maximum benefit - hit the brakes hard and don't let up. The pulsing vibration you feel means the ABS are working; some drivers instinctively let up on the brake when they feel it, so it's important for your teen to practice not letting up on the brake so he or she will do the right thing in an emergency situation.

If your budget allows, check out the more advanced crash-avoidance technologies found on newer modes, such as emergency brake assist, lane departure warnings, and blind spot warnings.

And don't forget the basics. Seat belts are standard in every vehicle - make sure your teen wears them on every trip. Be sure to check the tires, headlights, and taillights regularly to make certain they're in good working condition.

Lastly, when buying a car for your teen, realize that you are entering a new era of driver training. Teen drivers are typically very excited about driving and are often overconfident about their driving abilities. Be sure to train them in the vehicle you choose. Let your teen get familiar with the new vehicle while you ride along. Check up on them frequently. Familiarize yourself with the graduated driver licensing program and ensure that your teen follows the rules. Require that your young driver demonstrate responsible behavior and meet experience requirements in diverse road conditions before heading out on the road alone. Sign a contract to make sure your teen explicitly understands your requirements.

How to Combat The Media's Influence On Our Children

This is not your typical parenting article that shares æ'urvival tips? or the best DVD抯 and activities to fight boredom. Rather, I抦 going to share practical principles and techniques for raising spiritually, mentally and emotionally healthy children. The neat thing is that you have complete control over the effectiveness of the techniques, they cost you nothing, and you can test them out in the comfort of your own home. Sound good? Then, keep reading.

Did you know that the U.S. media landscape is dominated by a core group of giant corporations that, through a history of mergers and acquisitions, have gained control over much of what we see, hear and read? In many cases these giant companies are integrated, manufacturing everything from books, movies, music and more.

Listen to this, the Columbia Journalism Review reports that the same company that owns and controls the programming for 揗TV?and 揃ET? is also responsible for 揘ickelodeon? 揘ick Jr.? and 揘oggin? (Source: Columbia Journalism Review, http://www.cjr.org)

Think about it. A popular trend has emerged, where the music careers of young stars are launched on Disney Channel and Nickelodeon. The songs and videos usually start out innocently enough. Then what happens? We see them transition to MTV, where the songs become a little more risqu?and the lyrics become a lot less innocent. By then, however, our children have already fallen in love with these young stars. So, what can you do?

Does this mean that you should ban all of your children抯 favorite television shows? No. I抦 not suggesting that you toss the television out the window, although that may be a good idea. Instead, I want to provoke you to consider how important it is to be prayerful, diligent and informed in order to shield your children from negative influences that can harm their spiritual, mental and emotional well-being.

Here are a few ways you can become more involved in their daily activities. When your children are viewing certain programs, take time to watch. You may be surprised at the types of things you see. As you observe, ask yourself, 揥hat is being depicted in this cartoon or movie? What are the characters wearing, saying and doing??Sometimes sexual innuendo, rebellion against authority, and other inappropriate behavior is being portrayed. These subtle, yet unhealthy influences send subliminal messages to your children and mold their subconscious mind.

If a movie is rated PG-13, even if it抯 animated and has received rave reviews from the critics, still ask yourself æ's this appropriate for my child??Think about it. Animated movies gross millions of dollars at the box office, because children抯 entertainment is big business. The goal now is to entertain both the parents and the children; as a result, the children are influenced by sexually explicit content, vulgarity, profanity and violence, all cloaked as 揺ntertainment that抯 fun for the whole family.?/p>

Remember, everything planted inside your children is a seed, and seeds grow, whether bad or good. Children are like sponges, soaking up everything around them. As a parent, you act as the sanitizing agent, filtering out anything that will defile and harm them. Don抰 be afraid to turn the television off, or ban particular programs from being viewed in your home. These decisions are not always easy or popular, but they are necessary to protect the innocence of your children.

Be warned. Family and friends will not always smile upon your decision to sterilize your children抯 environment. You will sometimes be perceived as 搊verly protective?and 揳 little over the top.? I know it抯 no fun to be viewed as a prude, and few parents enjoy being labeled æ'trict,?but if you go the extra mile to provide your children with discipline and boundaries, you will build Godly character in them that will pay off in the long run. You must make the decision that Joshua made and declare that, 揂s for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.?(Joshua 24:15)

Think about this. You don抰 have a long time to remain the primary influence in your children抯 lives. Pretty soon, they抣l leave home. This is when they抣l depend on what you taught them in their formative years to make the right decisions. Do you really want television shows, video games and pop culture icons to be the strongest influences on their choices?

God chose you specifically as the steward over your precious children. Remain prayerful, submitted, and open to God抯 will. Trust Him, and He will equip you with all the necessary tools to raise Holy, happy and healthy kids. æ'n all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will direct your paths.?(Proverbs 3:6)

Christmas Gifts That Don't Cost a Dime - Free and Easy Experience Gifts

I have this Christmas time dream that I will be able to buy a gift for every person I know. The reality is my money runs out long before my list of friends. I can get something nice for my closest family, something small for a few more relatives and close friends...and every year the list of people my generous brain comes up with still has a long way to go. I am learning to put my brain to work coming up with free experience gifts - basically an activity I can do with someone. I don't want to let the year go by without letting them know how much I love and appreciate them.

I start by creating special invitations (sometimes I send them by email) or a homemade gift certificate. With this I like to include a short note letting this person know why I like them and how much they mean to me. Friends have told me they keep these notes and treasure what I said about them! If the activity is going to be before Christmas, I try to get the time set up right away since things get so busy for most people. If it is a gift certificate I am giving on Christmas day, I like to schedule our activity for sometime in January, when things have calmed down a little and winter boredom needs to be exterminated.

If you are like me, with more friends than money or if you simply want to keep your Christmas less focused on material things, try some of these fun experience gifts this year. I know you will enjoy the memories you make with the people you love!

  • Set up a crafting time for one or more children you know. Make a manger or winter scene out of homemade playdough or clay. Make your own Christmas cards to send to people. Collect pine branches and pinecones and make wreaths. Make and decorate stockings cut out of felt or fabric or even old clothes. Go through your house collecting items you no longer want and help the children turn these into presents to give. My boys are like me - always wanting to give to more people than they can buy for. They love it when I help them make gifts. You can even make Christmas gifts for their pets. You may want to check out some idea books from the library ahead of time or you can find extremely creative family craft ideas at http://www.familyfun.com for every season.
  • Hold a holiday decorating party with an old friend, a new neighbor family, an elderly person living in a retirement center or anyone you want to share a fun time with. You can decorate one or both of your homes. Haul out all the Christmas decorations you have and together come up with fresh new ways to use them. If you don't have anything to start with, come up with your own decorations. Make garlands out of loops of colored paper or popcorn. Cut out snowflakes and put them in the windows. Wrap a couple of empty boxes and tie them with big bows. Other decorating items I like are: indoor Christmas lights, sheet music of Christmas carols, evergreen branches, mittens hung on a string, old Christmas cards and photos from past holiday gatherings.
  • Invite someone to go for a Christmas drive to see the lights. Find out ahead of time where the best neighborhoods are for Christmas lights and decorations. Bring along some treats to snack on and tune into a station with carols to enjoy as you drive. If you want to have even more fun, create a few awards for the Most Elegant, Funniest, and Biggest displays. Stop and present them to the (surprised!) owners.
  • A night or two b! efore Ch ristmas, have a gift wrapping party. Set up a paper station, bow station and tag station. Go to work like an assembly line, but don't forget break time!
  • Take some young people (or young at heart) for an adventurous sledding trip. Prepare hot chocolate or cider in thermoses and head off for some big hills. When the sledders get tired, start some competition with a snowman contest.
  • As your Christmas gift to someone, give your time to a cause that is important to them. Visit a nursing home and present some of the residents with homemade Christmas cards. Help sort and make food baskets for a food pantry. Work in a Christmas wrap booth that benefits a charity. Volunteer as food servers at shelters that provide a Christmas dinner. This gift will not only bless the person you do it for, but also others who you don't even know yet and God, the one who cares most for the needy.
  • Find out what free holiday performances or events are going on in your area such as a Handel's Messiah concert, school performance, living nativity, etc. Pick up your friend and enjoy some cultural entertainment.
  • Organize a baking day with a one or two others, choosing recipes you already have ingredients for so that all the others have to do is show up and start mixing up a good time. You can put together plates or tins of treats to give to friends and neighbors or elderly people who can't manage holiday baking any more.
  • This Christmas experience gift is for children, adults or whole families - just tailor your choices according to your group. Go to the library and check out a variety of Christmas stories. I especially like to get ones that tell about the Christmas traditions from other cultures. Invite everyone to join you at your home, a historical landmark specially decorated for the holidays (you may need prior approval) or even an outdoor setting if it is not too cold. Seat everyone as they arrive and pass around snacks and punch or hot drinks. Read the Christmas stories aloud together, taking! turns, if you want. Make sure to "do the voices", as we used to tell my grandma!

A Special Note: As I was writing this, I realized that when you invite children for one of these events, you may also be giving a gift to the parents - some free time to get things done or just relax and enjoy the holidays. That's what I call a two-for-one special!

Whoever you give to, be sure to keep your activity simple and fun so that you are not too stressed out. Enjoy creating a great Christmas experience gift!

How to Make it Through the Ups and Downs of Parenting

Being a parent can be very challenging-at times. That tough job does offer rewards you cannot begin to get any place else. So you want to know how to stay balanced to make the challenges temporary and turn them into opportunities to grow-for you and for your child.

Lest you think I had a perfect relationship with my kids let me tell you we had disagreements. There were the usual sibling struggles and misunderstandings. There were the frustrations of being a parent with no manual to know what to do when.

What I did to get past the tough times was separate behaviors from people. There is no such thing as a good boy or a bad boy. Your boy is your boy to love and cherish. Period.

Sometimes he does things that are great. Sometimes he does things that are less than great. And always, in every moment, you are the parent and it is up to you to be in control of your behavior.

You do what you know! Others treat you with respect when you know you are worthy of respect. You love yourself and know others love you too.

When your child's needs are not met for love and affection, for being someone worthy of your time and attention, then he sees himself as unworthy--maybe even unlovable.

The seeds of low self esteem sprout from unconscious parenting-acting without thinking or paying attention to what you do and do not do, say and do not say to and with your kids.

The bottom-line is, do you want your kids behaving well and being happy or do you want your kids well behaved because they fear you?

Parents of Children With Special Needs - Getting Ready For the School Year

Getting ready for the new school year starts earlier when you have a child with special needs. There are so many things to plan ahead for, and people to coordinate with. You'll need to start preparing your child, too. It can all feel overwhelming -- and if you're like many parents of children with special needs, it's tempting to put off back-to-school preparations until the first day is just days away. The resulting last-minute flurry of phone calls, errands, and meetings can be exhausting!

This year, let's make the back-to-school process easier. Our Action Steps will focus on simple things you can do now to make this the best transition to the new school year ever, for your child, your family, and you, too.

Today, it's time to start getting the wheels in motion with the school itself -- any logistics required to make sure everyone and everything is ready for your child in a few weeks.

Action Steps!

1. Brainstorm a list of everything that needs to happen with school between now and September. Get help from your spouse, significant other, a friend who has a child in the same school/program. Depending on your child's age and abilities, include your him or her as much as possible in this brainstorming step, too.

2. Highlight anything on your list involving a phone call.

3. Start making those phone calls now. Top priority should be given to any call involving scheduling an appointment or a meeting. Calendars fill up fast this time of year!

4. As you set dates and times for appointments and meetings, make arrangements for any childcare you'll need.

5. Look over your list from step 1 and circle anything else you need to get started on now.

Now let's focus our Action Steps on preparing your child for the new school year - and preparing your family for the transition to a new daily routine. My top recommendations:

1. Bring your child to the school. If your child is new to the building, introduce him or her to anyone available, such as the school nurse, administrators, office staff, custodians. If possible, make arrangements in advance for your child's teacher(s) to be there when you visit.

2. Tour the building with your child, even if they've been going to this school for years. It helps get them into the school-year mindset, and also helps remind them where things are - like the doors, bathrooms, cafeteria, gym, nurse's office, and if possible, their new classroom(s). If your child is older, it's a good idea to get their locker number and let them practice opening it a few times.

3. Depending on your child's age and abilities, allow him or her to practice self-advocacy skills. Encourage your son or daughter to ask questions, tell teachers and staff about their classroom needs, and discuss any problems that need to be taken care of before the first day of school, such as a stuck locker, a blocked wheelchair ramp, or a malfunctioning sound system.

4. Get the whole family back on a school-year schedule gradually. Start moving up dinnertime, bedtime, and wake-up time -- so the first day of school won't be such a shock! You might also want to have your children help you make a morning checklist (use pictures if your child isn't reading yet) to help them remember everything they need to do on a school morning after they wake up. I also highly recommend having a "Don't Forget" list posted by the door, with key items like backpack, books, lunch, and of course, a smile!

How to Get Pregnant - Get Top Tips on Getting Pregnant

If you've landed on this page then you've probably been trying to conceive or know someone who has. Many people are convinced that as soon as they have unprotected sex, they will get pregnant, but that isn't always the case. Couples trying to get pregnant may not conceive for up to 12months and this is not out of the ordinary. Infact a recent study shows that 25% of couples conceive in the first month of trying, while 60% of couples trying to get pregnant successfully conceive within six months. However, 75% of couples get pregnant within nine months while 80% get pregnant within a year. Finally, some 90% of couples conceive within nine months of trying.

?b>Ovulation

Getting pregnant doesn't have to be a 'hit or miss' affair. In trying to get pregnant it is very important to know when exactly you're ovulation will occur as this is the keys in getting pregnant. All women's cycles are different and can vary individually from month to month. In general, ovulation typically occurs two weeks before menstruation. Understanding your body though will help your decide the best time to conceive.

?b>Mental health

Relax. Mental health factors can also affect your odds of getting pregnant. So low stress levels mean better female and male natural fertility. There are several relaxation exercises you can do to relieve your stress levels for you and your partner. Pilates and Yoga are a great example. Try to relax when trying to conceive, couples may often become more stressed rather than enjoy the intimacy, so it is important to reduce the stress when you are trying to conceive.

?Healthy diet

Also, having a healthy diet is another important factor. Eating your 5 daily servings of fruits and vegetables will not only help you maintain your weight but it will also give you your balanced intake of vitamins which can increase your chances of getting pregnant. Also, having an optimal weight, so not being overweight or underweight.

?Healthy lifestyle

Overall, having a healthy lifestyle will help to increase your chances of getting pregnant. This includes avoiding bad habits such as smoking or drinking alcohol and any other recreational drugs. Drinking coffee hasn't been proven to decrease rates of conception, however drinking too much caffeine during pregnancy may increase the risk of miscarriage.

Taking the above advice will help you increase your chances of getting pregnant however; implementing these factors can't be achieved without having the right mindset and being determined!

Essential Oils For a Beautiful Garden

I became interested in essential oils because of love of good fragrance. Soon I learned that there was more to these oils than good clean smell.

*There are the amazing health benefits of these oils. These oils are the true essence of the plant and can help with things like headache, burns, upset stomach.

*Are you aware that there are oils that you can use in cooking. Try adding a drop of an herbal oil to that recipe instead of the herb in a bottle.

*My newest discovery - essential oils in the garden. Oils can help rid the garden of pests and weeds as well as make a healthy compost.

Spring is the time to rekindle our relationship with the garden. Whatever you're growing it's important, whenever possible, to keep harsh chemicals away from your plants. Harsh chemicals harm the environment and can be harmful to your family and pets.

Here are some tips that can help you grow a beautiful garden with green essential oils.

1. For an effective bug repellent, fill a 24-oz spray bottle with water and add 2 - 3 drops of oregano, basil or thyme essential oil. To add zip to this green bug repellent, blend a clove of garlic and add to the solution with 2-tsp. insecticidal soap (add soap last). Spray this solution on or near infected plants.

2. Apply cinnamon essential oil as an herbicide to get rid of weeds. Take care to apply only to the weeds.

3. If you grow lavender, add the cuttings to the compost heap. Its a wonderful compost material and soil amendment.

Now You Can Have Fresh Basil in Your Own Herb Garden

Basil is an annual herbaceous plant. Its stems reach a height of just over half a meter. The leaves are green, wide and have different forms depending on the specie. It has small flowers, white and lavender, which appear in the summer. There are over 40 species of this plant. The most common is the Ocinum Basilicum or most commonly known - sweet basil.

You can only grow basil by seeds, which can be sown in seed beds or pots in early or mid-spring. Basil needs direct sunlight, but in hot weather, you need some shade. This plant is very sensitive to frost.

Growing basil requires fertile, moist and porous soil. It is common growing basil indoors in pots as houseplants, located on the sill of the windows in kitchens or terraces. Basil is used as a tonic, stimulant, digestive and as an antiseptic.

Similar to other aromatic herbs like rosemary or sage, is very suitable for growing around other plants that are attacked by insect pests.

As mentioned before, when growing basil you have to take into consideration that the plant needs a lot of moisture. Just be careful because it does not tolerate waterlogging. Well-drained soils are preferred. To encourage bushy growth, the branches should be pruned when the flower buds are formed.

You can grow basil from a seed outdoors or in pots. You can cover the seeds with 0.5 cm. of compost. The land for planting should be moistened before. Basil seeds take about a week to germinate. Due to its small size, it is preferable to plant a seed lot. When the seedlings have developed two sets of leaves, it's time to pull out the weaker seedlings to encourage the development of stronger ones.

Growing basil requires sunny locations, but allows slightly shaded sites. In cold climates, the leaves turn black when they are in contact with frost. It is preferable not to wet the leaves when watering. Watering can be done three times a week if the plant is below the sun, and if it is cloudy, just once a week.

Composting the soil must be done before sowing the seeds. It may be reinforced from time to time, using organic fertilizer. You must protect the nitrogen content of the ground to enhance the production of leaves. In excess, IT affects the taste of the plant.

To maintain the flavor and aroma of the leaves, it is preferable to cut the flowers, unless you want to collect the seeds. One way to avoid the production of flowers is to harvest the leaves from the top of the plant (after the plant is 20cm tall).

One advantage of growing basil is that the leaves can be harvested throughout the year, proving beneficial to the plant. It is necessary to wait until the plant reaches a height to harvest the leaves.

Enjoy growing basil and take advantage of its multiples uses!

How Detox Can Improve Your Fertility

If you are having trouble conceiving, one thing you may consider doing is detoxifying your body.

One of the key factors to becoming pregnant is getting your and your partner's bodies in optimum shape. This can be chemical, hormonal, and your level of toxicity. These balances are often thrown off by the the kinds of food we eat, and the day to day stress of life. Some studies show that the three main contributors to infertility are stress, over-acidity in the body, and hormonal imabalance. All of these are affected by toxins in our systems.

Imbalanced sugar levels can, in turn, affect your hormonal level. These can cause your body to be more acidic than is healthy for a baby. Consider seeds in soil, the soil needs to be of the right Ph balance, in order for them to grow healthy crops. You are no different, if you body is not of the right levels, your seeds won't grow, and if they do, they won't grow properly. Your body needs to create the right environment in order for your seeds to blossom.

In addition to what you eat, your level of stress can also contribute to leaving your body exhausted, and unable to cleanse itself of what's inside. If you are too tired for your daily life, then your body is as well, and probably unable to create the right situation for your baby to take root.

One answer is to go to a detox spa, where they drain your body of toxins, and help reduce your stress level. However, not everyone has the time or money to do this. If you are able to do it, then you should tell the spa that you are doing it to aid in conception. However, for the rest of us, you need to focus on:

1) Diet -- Make sure the food you eat is low in unnatural additives, including processed sugar. Eat plenty of fruit and vegetables, to help in your acid levels, and stick or organically or locally grown produce, if possible.

2) Lower your stress -- there are lots of ways to do this, including yoga, exercise, meditation, etc. If you are experiencing problems at work or in your relationship, you want to figure those out before you try to conceive.

3) Sleep -- your body needs it. Proper sleep helps with your stress levels, and also gives your body the energy to cleanse your system of things that shouldn't be in there.

4) Exercise -- you need your body in peak physical shape. One good way to do this is with a regular exercise routine. Keep at it, and good things will happen.

You need to keep your body -- your garden -- in top form for your seeds to grow. Keep that in mind as you live your daily life.

Can Your Toddler Read?

Wouldn't you like to discover one day that your toddler can read a book all on his own? If your answer is yes, you should know that you can, very probably, make it happen. Equally more important is asking yourself the question why you want to develop the reading ability in your child or any genius ability for that matter. The answer to this question is vital to the success of the process. Your motivation will have a tremendous effect on your child and his life.

Besides wanting your child to be a genius because you want the best for him, you also want your child to be a happy, well-adjusted, successful and fulfilled individual. Once you have this firmly fixed in your mind, you are ready to take the first step. But at each and every step remember this positive principle. I want the best for my child, so I must give the best to him. Keep this firmly fixed in your mind and feel the emotions to what it entails and you can create an exciting, energizing atmosphere and to build your belief and confidence in your child. From this healthy thought process, you will always be nurturing your child's intelligence. In this supporting, inspiring atmosphere, your child's genius can blossom and flourish.

There are four steps you can take toward your toddler's path to being a genius

1. Create A Conducive Environment
Why do the grapes grown in the vineyards of France produce such wonderful wines? It is because the grape vines have the right soil, the right temperature, the right moisture and the right surroundings. The grapes flourishes in conducive conditions. In the same way, your child's genius will flower and blossom in the conducive environment created by you.

2.Always Be The Guiding Force
A child is very sensitive to the tone of your voice. Adjust your tone so that you sound gentle and encouraging. If your child senses any pressure, you will never get the results you desire. Learning should be an enjoyable experience for your child. It can't be enjoyable if he feels imposed by you.

3.Have Patience And Not Expectations
Up to the age of six, a child's attention span is no more than 2 minutes per subject. You may be interested to know children's TV programs like Sesame Street have this consideration in mind. After 2 minutes, your toddler may lose interest in the activity you are trying to engage the child in and his eyes start wandering to his favorite red car. At this point, do not force him to come back to your activity, it will only annoy him. Have patience. If your expectations are too high, your child will feel the stress and this will undo any good that you have done so far.

4.Teach With Love
Most parents tend to be over enthusiastic and can overextend themselves as well as their child. In your zealousness, even your anxiety to teach something new to your child, you may forget one important factor and that is your child's happiness. Let your love and intuition guide you to teach your child. Always teach with encouragement and loving kindness. This way, your baby can read or learn math in no time.

With these tips in mind, you can invest in mere minutes a day to not only teach your toddler not only to read, learn mathematics, but also attain encyclopedic knowledge. There are home-based programs that can make these tasks a whole lot easier or you can create teaching programs yourself. Remember it is the parent-child bonding experience that matters the most in bringing the best out of your child.

Italian Herb Garden - Secrets to an Abundant Planter

Italian food is all about the spices. You start out with your base of pasta and then add flavorful sauces full of tomatoes, cheese, and fragrant herbs. Whether you are replicating the cooking your grandmother did or just love the hearty aroma of Italian cooking, you know that you need the proper flavors from an Italian herb garden in order to make the right dishes. There are many herbs that make up the Italian canon. These include: basil, garlic, rosemary, thyme, parsley, sage, fennel, chives, and oregano. You can spend a lot of money and buy these herbs fresh or dried from the store, or you can grow your own garden in a planter right in your kitchen no matter where you live, be it in the country or in a small city apartment, but there are some secrets to a bountiful Italian herb garden that one should know.

Italian herbs are not all that different from any other type of plant you want to grow in your container garden. They need the right amount of sunlight, the best type of soil, adequate water and drainage in order to flourish. The requirements for an Italian herb garden may vary from species to species, but these are the basic components of any happy plant. Drainage is especially important -and unfortunately often neglected- so ensure that your planter has holes at the bottom for excess water to drip out.

As you set up your herb garden planter, you should pair herbs that have similar growing requirements. Did you know that rosemary likes a hot climate whereas parsley enjoys a colder environment? As a result, rosemary and parsley would not do well in the same container. However, if you want to know the secret of abundance of basil and garlic here it is: the two herbs have very similar soil and sunlight needs, therefore you should grow them in the same pot.

Some herbs love to spread wildly, for example thyme, a favorite of any Italian herb garden, will continue to grow until there is no soil left and it will choke out all the other herbs, therefore thyme should definitely be given its own container.

Once you have set up your Italian herb garden planter and the herbs are growing nicely, the secret to keeping them abundant is to regularly harvest them. By harvesting the ends of your herbs it stimulates new growth and also you have the added bonus of obtaining a large amount of fresh oregano available for adding to the pasta sauce or for freezing. You can also keep your supply of Italian herbs steady by taking cuttings from mature plants about once every two months and re-potting them as this ensures that your Italian herb garden is growing and also that you will have replacement herbs when some die off. For instance, basil takes about three months to reach its best harvesting growth and when cut off it then takes about three months to grow back, therefore one should always keep three pots of basil growing in rotation so that there is plenty for your pizza.

Once you gain some real life experience with growing an Italian herb garden in planters you will see that producing bountiful herbs is not really so secret after all, they are just commonsense tips that allow you to create and maintain the best growing environment for your Italian herb garden.

About Pregnancy Calendars

A pregnancy calendar is a fun and informative way to keep track of your pregnancy and ensure a healthy outcome for you and your baby. For most women, pregnancy and birth is one of the key points in life and a pregnancy calendar will help you live the experience to the fullest. Detailed week-by-week information about the bodily changes happening to yourself and your baby, as well as handy advice regarding everything from nutrition to exercise, are just some of the things pregnancy calendars have to offer.

Standard features of most pregnancy calendars include: how to take care of yourself throughout each stage of pregnancy; tips on how to meet increasing nutritional needs while staying physically fit; and how much weight you should gain during pregnancy. Some may also include a detailed outline of your baby's weekly development and instructions from the experts on how to ensure that you both progress the way that you should. Many pregnancy calendars can be customized to fit your own unique personality and include spaces for a diary and a record to keep track of doctor's appointments and other important dates.

Pregnancy calendars are fun to use and, best of all, they are often free or cost a minimal amount. Many internet sources offer free downloads of pregnancy calendars and a simple online search will reveal dozens of choices. Most can be personalized and some websites will even send you e-mail alerts as important milestones draw near. Some pregnancy-related or Women's and Children's Health magazines offer a free pregnancy calendar to paid subscribers.

Huggies offers an excellent pregnancy calendar while American Adoptions has an online version accompanied by weekly updates. American Baby and Pregnancy Weekly both have calendars that are available online and can be personalized. Baby Fit features a week-by-week, development-specific pregnancy calendar while Baby Center has create-your-own pregnancy calendar options and tools. The choices are endless and the results amazing. Many people treasure their pregnancy calendars as keepsakes or use them to compare with future pregnancies.

Most pregnancy calendars are very simple and user-friendly. Anyone can understand them and the facts are presented in a clear-cut, down-to-earth manner. The hardest part for most people is calculating the due date, but this is usually provided by your physician. Even if it is not, most pregnancy calendars include instructions on how to calculate the due date that are easy to understand for even the most math illiterate person.

Pregnancy is no longer just a 9-month waiting period for the big day. With the help of a pregnancy calendar, expectant mothers can become actively involved in all the exciting changes of pregnancy, while at the same time benefiting their health. A handy source for expert advice, it can also do much to alleviate anxiety, as the due date looms closer. The truth is, a pregnancy calendar is just one excellent way to make the most of your pregnancy.

Ok, So I'm 7 Years Old, I'm Out of Control - And I'll Keep Behaving Badly For As Long As I Can!

So, a new starter in my class has done ok for a little while... then what happens?

It had to happen. The initial good start had to come to an grinding halt... Well what do you expect? Try and put yourself in this little guy's place... he's been allowed to behave appallingly for most of his life and suddenly someone's expecting good behaviour! Shock and horror!

Well, he's not going to be too pleased, is he? He's had his own way, been king of the castle, had absolute control and now he's getting the message that this isn't going to be the case any more. 'Hm', he's thinking, 'I'm going to test to see how much they mean all this! Others have tried and failed to take any control of my behaviour and they've given up after a short while - I soon sent them running for the hills... This lot won't be any different.'

Behaviour that has been allowed to be considered 'normal' to a child is so much a part of their everyday life that it's going to change only with some very skilled intervention. So, this little boy can't change without adult intervention. Even if he wanted to make changes, he can't do it by himself - he hasn't the emotional maturity to achieve this.

These children have practically no chance without this intervention, but the sad thing is that the situation need never have got this extreme... and these children have the additional problem of adults getting together and deciding there's something wrong with them and this is causing them to behave badly.

Back to this little guy -- what's he done to blot his copybook in my class? Not really very much, but he showed he didn't like the idea of having to follow instructions, that he'd prefer not to do much work in class, plus he'd like to gain attention by tapping on the table and making silly noises. 'Come on Liz', I can hear you thinking, 'I thought you deal with children's extreme behaviour? What on earth is extreme about a bit of tapping and making noises?'

'Well,' I reply - I do deal with potentially extreme behaviour.' In a nutshell, I don't allow the children's behaviour to escalate to a point where there's anything really extreme to deal with! The secret of managing children's behaviour successfully is having the skill to intervene at the right time and following the right 'rules of encounter' at that point... To manage children successfully, even those whose behaviour has been so challenging (and still has the potential to escalate to that level) you have to know: at what point to act, what to do, what to say, how to say it, when to stop the intervention and what to do after the event... All of these actions work together to make your behaviour management successful. Anyone can learn to manage behaviour effectively and confidently... it's really not difficult.

How did my intervention with the new little guy turn out? Pretty good - message given, received and understood. Then normal service was resumed... We've still a lot of work to do to break some very bad and firmly established habits, but I'm very happy with the start we've made.

I visited his mainstream school today, and I can tell you there's a lot of work to do there -- it's no surprise he doesn't feel he should make very much effort with his work!

Want to Try Making Beaded Jewelry?

If you are reading this article, chances are either that you already love beads and are looking to assemble combination of your own, or that you are checking out beads and how best to incorporate them into your attire. Either way, the best thing about beads is the number of ways in which they can be adjusted with the rest of your clothes and accessories and the fact that you don't have to worry about them too much! Beads are a fashion statement in themselves and the kind of beads you wear can tell a lot about you.

While you will see a lot of high end designers are incorporating beads into their fashion line to express various moods and to add colorful accents, beads are made for experimenting. Try not to copy a look a designer has created. Instead make your own jewelry to express yourself. Beaded jewelry making is both an art that needs a lot of passion, effort and patience as also fun and rewarding, and a great way to have fun while dressing up! After all, there is nothing more exciting and rewarding than creating a masterpiece- bead by bead. Everyone can design beautiful jewelry, just remember to put together things you like to make a piece that is unique and special. Use beads in metal, plastic, wood and glass from craft stores or even those in crystal and gem from jewelers. If you want to be more resourceful, you can even use materials from around the house, such as clay, paper, cardboard, etc.

Here are a few basic things to help you get started. Of course, you'll figure out more as you start stringing!

First, make a lay pattern out of the design for your necklace (or anklet, etc.) on a hard surface. This should be done on a table top or any other stable surface to avoid the trouble of finding your beads once they've rolled away! Also, cut off any draughts, etc if you are using very light beads. Now, cut your bead wire according to the length you require. You can use anything from a string to a thin metal wire, or even soft-flex wire to string your beads. Be sure to cut it at least 5 inches longer than you want the actual necklace to be. Pay attention to fastening the edges securely and to buy good quality ends and hooks for your beads to make jewelry that is as sturdy as it is pretty!

Beaded jewelry making will help your creativity flourish. If you have the time, you can even turn this hobby into a business. After all, there are a lot of people out there who love beads! Think of customizing in the beads sector and just imagine the joy a unique piece would bring to people. You can even gift your creations to close friends or family members. The pride you will feel at creating something so treasured and individual will surely be priceless! And of course, the satisfaction received from creating that perfect piece for your oh-so-prized-dress can hardly be enumerated. So go on, string it!

Where to Advertise to Find a Babysitter

Do you need to find a babysitter who can baby-sit for you on a regular basis? Most parents, even those who consider themselves stay at home parents; will find themselves in need of a babysitter who can care for their children on a regular basis. Sometimes the parent takes on an out of the home job. For others it is because a babysitter is needed to spend time and take care of one child so that the parent can take the other child to regular lessons or activities. Whatever the reason it is usually a lot easier to find babysitters to baby-sit for you on a regular basis than it is to line up several sitters to baby-sit for you once in a while.

Your first option, if you want to find a babysitter to baby-sit for you on a regular basis is to advertise at your local high schools and universities. Students usually have more flexible schedules and will often work for lower wages than full time babysitters and nannies. What's more, a student is usually better able to take on a short term regular gig than a long term regular gig. It is important, however, that you take steps to protect you and your family when you advertise openly to find babysitter. Create a temporary e-mail address and use that as your point of contact. This will help you do an initial screening of applicants without having to give out your personal information.

Another option if you want to find a babysitter who can take on a regular babysitting job is to place advertisements online. Online bulletin boards like Craigslist and Kajiji are full of ads that are posted by parents who are in need of a babysitter. It is very important that you take steps to protect your family as well as yourself when you post ads online. As with the ads you posted at the various schools, it is important that you protect your personal information for as long as possible before meeting potential applicants in person or introducing them to your children.

One of your best options if you need to find a babysitter on a regular basis is to work with a nanny placement or a babysitting placement agency. These agencies typically work with adults who care for children on a full time basis, but it is possible to find a part time babysitter or nanny through them as well. The biggest bonus to working with an agency is that the agency will usually have thoroughly screened its babysitters and nannies before they allow them to be placed with a family. Of course, this does not mean that you shouldn't check out the agency before you commit to working with it.

Finding a babysitter for a regular babysitting gig doesn't have to take a lot of work, it simply takes some time, patience and creativity. Take your time to interview and perform background checks on each potential babysitter and you will find that you can find a babysitter without too much trouble.

Teach Children Domestic Skills Early in Life

As I flashback to my childhood; I cannot remember being taught domestic skills in detail early in my life. I basically only remember eating dinner and getting up from the kitchen table and going outside to play. One day as I watching my daughter sweep the floor I noticed she had no fundamentals or ideal how to sweep the floor in the proper way. I watched to see how she swept the floor, and after watching, I had had enough and simply took the broom from her and showed her how to sweep the floor.

While we sometimes think most things come naturally like sweeping floors and washing dishes, I had to think for a minute; this is something I had not taught my child. We time to time think most people learn from just watching someone else do something, and then we expect them to be able to do the same thing. I found I had missed the mark with showing and teaching my daughter basic household chores. Sure I managed to get her to clean her bedroom, but I use to do the majority of house cleaning. Once I realized it was time for her to start helping me clean the bathroom, dust and clean furniture I had to teach her the basics.

It is so important to teach our children at a young age to learn basic domestic house chores. I would suggest pre-teens or earlier depending on your child's maturity level and their capabilities. The sooner children learn their household chores including but not limited to; washing dishes, washing their own clothes, cooking, cleaning the bathroom, sweeping and mopping floors, running vacuum cleaner etc, the sooner they will have the life skills necessary to take care of themselves without your assistance.

One of the best things you and I can do as parents is to teach our children as much as possible so they're "well-rounded" when they are no longer in our custody. While some things seem like a simple task to you, it could be a little more complicated to someone else. Never overestimate your child can do real simple task. If we as parents train and teach our children as much as we can, then all our teaching will not go in vain. Proverbs 22: 6 says "Train up a child in the way He should go; when he is old he will not depart from it."

Your child or children are an asset to you and not a liability. Look, Children are a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of your womb is a reward. Psalm 127:3. If you are struggling with your parental rights and responsibilities sign-up to receive tips on life in general and I can help you with your parenting concerns.

How to Store Breast Milk

In today's society, it can be difficult for a mom to find the time to breast feed her child. Or it may simply be inconvenient because of being out in public. In these circumstances, many women choose to use expressed breast milk. Expressing is the act of mechanically squeezing milk from the breast and storing it in a bottle. The expressing is normally done using a pump. Expressed milk also comes in handy if the mom cannot be around and has to leave her baby in the care of a baby sitter, nanny, or her husband.

Expressed milk can remain good for quite a while if stored correctly. There are plastic bottles and bags made especially for holding and storing this milk. The milk can be placed in the freezer and refrigerator to extend it's shelf life. It is true that expressed milk stored in the freezer will lose some of it's nutrients, antibodies, and enzymes, much the same as any other food. But even so, unless you are sick, it will most likely still be healthier for your child than any formula that you purchase from the store.

To test if expressed milk is good, simply smell it. As long as it doesn't smell bad, it's probably still good. You should be able to store expressed milk at room temperature for up to six or eight hours with no ill effects from it.

Sometimes babies that have been used to breastfeeding have difficulty learning to suckle milk from a bottle. In these cases, the probable culprit is that sucking from a bottle requires a slightly different set of mouth motions than sucking from a breast. So the baby has to learn new eating habits, which most infants are reluctant to do after about 4 weeks. Now, nearly all babies will be bottle fed at some time or other. So to avoid or lessen problems later, it's probably best to at least introduce a child to a bottle a few times in the first 4 weeks or so. This way it's not a foreign experience to her when you try to get her to suckle from a bottle at a later time.

When choosing a baby bottle in which to store milk, you will typically have a choice between the 4 ounce and 8 ounce sizes. You can probably count on using both sizes at some point or other, so you may as well get one or more quantities of both sizes. You can also choose to buy permanent bottles or disposable ones. One of the most important features to look for in a feeding bottle is one with anti-gas properties. Anti-gas features can do a lot towards preventing your child from sucking in air with her milk which can cause cramps and other discomforts.

Normally, when breastfeeding her child, the woman should sit in a near upright position, leaning slightly backwards. This decreases the chance of the baby swallowing air. It's also a very comfortable position for the woman, enabling her to hold the child firmly while she wraps the baby around her.

Poinsettia Care - Tips to a Great Looking Poinsettia Plant

Poinsettia care is not that difficult but there are a few guidelines to which you should adhere in order to make sure your plant remains healthy and colorful during the holiday season. The amount of light that your plant receives is very important. A typical plant will require around fourteen hours of complete darkness to encourage the budding process of the plant. This will allow the leaves to reach their truest color. Many people believe that the plant has flowers but actually it is the brilliant red leaves that make the plant so appealing to the eye.

The right amount of water is also critical to the health and well being of your poinsettia plant. Often people make the mistake of over watering. Proper plant care requires watering your plant once or twice a week making sure the top one inch of soil remains moist. To much water and the roots may began to rot. Poinsettia plants do not like cold temperatures so if possible place your plant in a south window where your plant can soak up the afternoon sun. Fertilize your plant twice a month and you should have a plant that you can enjoy though out the holiday season.

If you are so inclined and with a little effort you can enjoy your plant year round. When spring time rolls around and the temperatures began to climb (into the fifties and sixties) you can transplant the poinsettia plant outside. Plant in an area where there will be some shade each day. Make sure to occasionally water your plant. Trim the plant back so that there are only one or two buds per stem and you will have a summer poinsettia plant you can enjoy for years to come.

The poinsettia plant was originally introduced to the United States from the country of Mexico in the early 1800's. The story is told of the first United States Ambassador to Mexico Joel Roberts Poinsett walking through the Mexican countryside and coming across a poinsettia plant growing next to the road. The ambassador was so enthralled with the beauty of the plant that he brought it back to the United States upon his return. In addition to introducing the poinsettia plant to the United States Ambassador Poinsett was also responsible for the creation of the Smithsonian Institution.

Poinsettias can liven up your holiday season by providing warmth and vibrant colors to you home and surroundings. With attention and proper poinsettia care you can have a plant that will brighten your life for many years to come.

Photo-Polymer Plates For Jewelry Artists - 6 Must-Have Techniques to Make Your Jewelry Unique!

The use of Photo-polymer Plates in Visual Arts is extensive! Although Photo-polymer Plates were developed for Flexographic (industrial) printing, artists soon found ways to exploit this very versatile material for making art prints, etchings, artist books and more.

Today these plates are also used by jewelry artists world wide. When I first introduced the Metal Clay community to the concept of making texture and design plates at home, for a low cost and in a very short period of time, I had no idea how well they would be embraced.

But making impressions is only one technique the plates can be used for. Once you have the set up for exposing and making the plates, you are all set to use them for all sorts of other things:

1. Printing

This is what they were designed for! Think of packaging and presentation materials and printing on materials to make jewelry from.

  • Use your logo on Card Tags, pretty paper bags etc
  • Print onto perspex or on glass for use in jewelry pieces

2. Embossing

This works especially well when you use the harder polymer plates. All you need is a simple ball stylus purposely designed for embossing, or try an empty ballpoint pen to start you off. Make sure to use good quality, heavy paper.

3. Using a Photo-polymer Plate as a Mould for Wax Models for Casting

Making multiple, or related castings is easy when you start with a basic design in a polymer plate.

  1. Use the deepest plate you can buy
  2. Brush vaseline into the grooves and all over the plate
  3. Build a shallow retaining 'wall' around the design to keep the liquid wax in
  4. Pour the wax carefully into all the grooves
  5. Let it cool naturally and take it off the plate

The resulting wax can be further worked like any other wax model

4. Making Moulds for Glass

Make a master for Casting plaster

  1. Use the depth of plate suitable for your design (a plastic backed plate would work better for this process)
  2. Oil well in the grooves and all over the plate
  3. Build a retaining 'wall' around the design, make it in two steps, one for the plaster and one a bit deeper for the glass
  4. Pour in your casting plaster mix and let set
  5. Take off the plate and dry thoroughly
  6. Then follow you favourite casting schedule with the glass of your choice

5. Making Moulds for Pottery Clay

Plaster moulds made for clay would be similar to the ones described above. They can be simple press moulds, or made with a well to take casting slip.

Use a flexible plate to make it easier to release from the plaster or clay would be advisable.

Make lovely ceramic pieces that can be set in metal or simply strung on cord or leather.

6. Making Impression Plates for Polymer Clay and Metal clays

And last but not least....this is what many metal clay artists use to get nice clean lines in their designs.

  • Excellent as a starting point for further carving
  • Great for bold inlay designs
  • Making metal Logo tags, using computer artwork including lettering
  • Making Keum-boo texture plates and more

You can find step by step instructions to make the plates at: http://www.silverclayart.com/ppplates-instr.htm

Dinner Party Planning - Some Essential Elements You Should Never Do Without

The very first thing to remember about dinner party planning ?/b>is this: the simplest dinners are usually the ones where the guests and the host enjoy the evening the most. True enough, there is something to be said with a 10 course meal, gold leaf decorations everywhere and live fiddlers for entertainment. "Ostentatious" comes to mind, but that still does not guarantee that everyone in the party will be happy enough to tuck into the food or stay until the final toast. So, to keep things simple, which incidentally also puts less strain on your budget and your energy, here are some essential elements that you should always bear in mind.

1. Always plan ahead. It does not matter if you are having a dozen guests over or you are making dinner for a party of two. Planning ahead will lighten your load considerably. Decide early on when you want the party to happen and who should be on the guest list. This is also the best time to think of a theme for the party, if you want to have one. Make sure that you plan about 1 month or more in advance. This is to give your guests time to put your invitation on their calendar, time to prepare themselves to be in line with your theme, and time for you to gather everything you need for that night.

2. Consider your guests' needs above everything else. Serving beef roast with Thai peanut sauce may sound great in theory; but not if one of your guest is actually vegetarian, or afraid to try exotic food, or has peanut allergy. Always be thoughtful enough to discreetly inquire about your guests' dietary requirements and start planning your menu with those in mind. This will also help simplify matters considerably.

3. Plan your menu according to your cooking and baking skills. Again, try to simplify matters. No one will expect you to whip up Cotriade or Confit de Canard or mille-feuilles with creme牋Chantilly unless you advertise it. Be realistic also with your culinary skills. Overstretching yourself on meals you have never even tried before might not bode well for your guests - or you.

Another important element you should know is this: there is nothing against the rule book about buying deli foods or having gourmet meals delivered to your house. Takeout meals are not as bad as they sound either. Or, if you plan things right, you can even designate one of your guests to be the cook for the night or the barbeque tender if you are planning a cookout. Just make sure that you tell him or her in advance. If indeed you are planning to cook the dishes yourself, try to prepare most of it in advance. Pre-cook or pre-bake some of the dishes the night before, so that it can be reheated just before everyone settles down at the dinner table.

4. Create lists, lists and lists. Your dinner party planning ?/b>will not be complete without having a long list of things to complete. There should be a separate list for the ingredients of your proposed dishes. Another list should be dedicated to your dinner supplies, which may include seating arrangements, serving pieces, plates, cutlery, table napkins and candlesticks. There should also be another one for the cleaning schedule, and one more for the buying and putting up of 爐he decor. If you have certain activities in mind, these should be listed down as well.

* A variety of chocolate options are available. All kinds of candy bars in all sorts of sizes can be ordered with personalized wrappers.?If you have a favorite, it shouldn't be hard to find. Some business are offering Belgian chocolates. You can also find a few that work with a chocolatier to make your confection according to your specifications.

* You can make them yourself. Although there are plenty of companies that will produce these for you, this is one favor you might want to try creating.?You can download a free printable wrapper from the internet, design one using software on your computer or use your scrapbooking skills to fashion one from scratch. Then just cut, wrap and glue.

Cons

* You're not always guaranteed freshness.?Yes, chocolate has a relatively long shelf life (about a year).?But you may not know how long those candy bars have been hanging around the company's warehouse. It's important to buy from a reputable business or one that uses a chocolatier and makes the confections fresh for each customer.

* Chocolate bars can melt.?This is especially a problem if you order these party favors during the summer or you live in a warmer climate.?/p>

* You may have to pay extra shipping. Since these treats can melt, you may want to arrange overnight delivery of your package, which costs more money. You may also need to add a cold pack with your candy or choose an insulating box.?This can add to the expense, as well.

* They're not exactly a keepsake.?If you're looking for favors that your guests will save as a reminder of your special occasion, then these aren't for you.?A few people might save the personalized wrapper and put it in a photo album or scrapbook. But most will just enjoy eating them and that will be end of it.

* You might need extras.?/strong> People find chocolate irresistible. If you scatter these candy bars around, you might find them disappearing before the end of the party. Unless you have a way of placing them into goodie bags with individual's names on them, it might be a good idea to buy more than you think you need.

Conclusion

If you're looking for inexpensive party favors that everyone will really like, then chocolate bars with custom wrappers might be right for you. Browse online until you find the right company with great personalized designs or make then yourself. Just be aware that the candy should be fresh and protected from the heat. Although there are a few drawbacks, these treats are always a hit with guests.

Corporate Mommies

Depending on what generation you are from, you might remember a time when fathers went to work, while mothers stayed home with their children. Those who are members of the 揵aby boomer?generation may be able to relate. It seems as though some of the members of the baby boomer generation set a trend that stated 搈oms can do it all? It was during the baby boomer generation that several mothers moved toward joining the corporate world. Child daycare services became very popular among several American households. Other fast growing trends were TV dinners, microwaves, and fast food. Hence, the baby boomers produced what is known as Generation X.

The Generation Xers decided to take the statement 搈oms can do it all?to a higher level. Not only were mothers removed from the home and into the workforce, but fathers were removed from the home permanently or were never apart of the home in the first place. During Generation X and currently, the divorce rate sky rocketed to an all time high梕ven within the church. Now, we move on to the present generation桮eneration Rx.

Generation Rx is currently populated with young children, teenagers, and young adults who abuse drugs. Because so many children are abusing drugs, society has marked this entire generation with the term Rx. As sad as this may sound, 搕he truth hurts?has proven itself several times over. It is strongly suggested that Generation Rx was directly affected by the revolution of mothers going into the corporate workforce and fathers not present in the home. As a result, these children are either spending countless hours away from their homes or at home alone. With mom at work and dad living outside the home, who is rearing today抯 generation?

Currently there is a wide variety of mothers who have joined forces to commit themselves to their number one purpose梤aising children. Some new-age mothers have become what are known as work-at-home moms. They are still in some form a part of the corporate world, except they are working from within the home.

Corporate moms earn a living while staying home to raise their children. Let's not forget our work-at-home dads. They are setting a new trend as well. If you feel torn between spending more time with your children and working full-time, you may want to consider working from home. Whether you own your own home-based business or work for someone else, you will reap many benefits. You set your own hours and vacation days, all while enjoying the gift of spending time with your family. What a way of getting the best of both worlds.

Three Ways to Prevent a Tantrum When You're Shopping With Your Child

It's an all too familiar parenting situation: You're at the shopping mall or grocery store, your child sees something he or she wants, and asks you to buy it for them. If you say no, it may lead to behavior problems such as screaming, crying, whining, shouting, or even a full-blown kicking-and-screaming tantrum on the floor of the store.

As the parent, you feel embarrassed, self-conscious and maybe angry at your child. You're sure that everyone else in the store is thinking about what a bad parent you are.

To your child, this behavior is simply a tactic. Either it has worked before, or for whatever reason they are convinced that if they create a scene they'll get what they want.

This 3-step strategy that is taught by the Love and Logic?parenting program may shock you at first, but when you try it you will see how well it works!

Step One: When your kid says, "Hey Mom, look at this super duper storm trooper extravanganza...," stop what you're doing and take the time to respond with empathy, "Wow, that is really cool, look at that laser light!" Then just keep trucking. Most of the time, all your child wants is to be noticed and to be heard, and to have someone share his excitement.

Step Two: If the child proceeds, "But I want it!" respond with the question, "Well, how are you going to pay for it? Do you want to use your piggy bank money? Put it on your birthday list or Christmas list? Ask Grandma for it?" And then again, keep on trucking and do not stop. Your child is now thinking and planning. Have fun with his response and help him work out his plan.

Step Three: If the child still responds, "But I want it now!" repeat your question, "How are you going to pay for it?" as you keep on trucking and do not stop. As you approach the checkout counter with your child and the desired item in tow, say to the cashier, "These are my things, I'm going to pay you for them. This is my child and he wants to buy this toy. I'll let you and him work it out."

Yes, your child will be shocked, embarrassed and have disbelief. Yes, he may run to the car screaming, "I hate you!" But do you think you'll ever have to do that again? Or will your child have learned that the limits you set are firm? Applying this kind of discipline, especially in public, can be uncomfortable at first, but the Love and Logic?parenting model teaches that short-term discomfort for you and your kids is okay when you're creating long-term happiness.

Good Parenting Skills - What Makes a Good Parent?

There is no such thing as a perfect parent. It's a very tough job, and I think most of us will agree it's much tougher than we ever thought it would be! That's one reason why we sometimes want some advice; to reinforce what we are already doing right, as well as pick up some additional skills to be better. Like anything else, good parenting takes practice and these skills can be learned over time. The following are some traits of a good parent:

  • A good parent is loving to his or her children. There are lots of ways to show your kids that you love them. Saying "I love you" is just part of it. You need to be supportive and available, respectful and never too busy for them.
  • A good parent is also a good listener. And there is a big difference between active listening and passive listening. Your kids will know the difference. By actively listening, you not only hear what they are saying but you are engaging them in conversation about it.
  • A good parent provides a feeling of safety and security. We can't hang onto them forever but we can make them feel safe and protected. There is nothing more comforting to your child than a safe and loving home.
  • A good parent creates a structured environment. Your children need this routine whether they think they do or not. They may complain about brushing their teeth or making their bed or doing their homework, but these routines and expectations provide order in their lives.
  • A good parent is proud of his children and tells them often. You don't need your kid to score a touchdown or get an A on his spelling test to be proud of him. You can just be proud of him for being a great kid. Tell him this on a regular basis.
  • A good parent has a set of rules and expectations and sticks to them. The most important point here is to be consistent. If there are two parents involved they both need to be on the same page. It's confusing to the child otherwise, and provides too many opportunities to pit one parent against the other.

Keep Expressing Yourself, Even in a Recession

With economies around the world sluggish for most of 2009, many of us have had to cut back. Maybe we've lost a job or had our salary cut. Maybe you've seen bad things happen to others and realize that scaling back is a smart thing to do even if you don't have to right now. If these tough times have taught us anything, it's that things can change on a dime. But no matter how much you scale back, try and keep some room in your budget for a hobby, whether that's running marathons or creating pottery with something like AMACO ceramics. Even though your hobby might cost some money, the benefits can be worth the expense. In some cases, your hobby is a stress reliever, in others it's a creative outlet. It's not healthy to keep stress and creative urges bottled up, so continuing with your hobby might actually make you healthier and happier.

It may not be as hard to find some money to keep your hobby going than you may think. If you've budgeted out your money, take a look at what your expenses are. You might be able to slash something that you originally thought of as a necessity that is actually just a luxury. For instance, do you really need that expensive television package? Think about how much you really watch the tube, and then decide if you might rather spend that time working out or forming AMACO clay into your next masterpiece. When you think about things in this way, you start to realize that your budget is really a lot more flexible than you originally thought. You might even find that going through your budget is kind of liberating.

But you might be at the point in your budget where you're so tight that there isn't any room to breathe at all. Maybe you've found all of those hidden luxuries and already got rid of them. Perhaps there isn't any more room to cut. If this is the case, then maybe you really can't afford that new pair or running shoes or some AMACO glaze. However, there are likely still things you can do for free that will allow you a similar sort of outlet. Maybe there's a community center that has some free art program you can attend. It might not be the exact type of art you would do, but you can still make it work. When things get bad, you have to be a little flexible, but remember your hobbies are still important!

Pregnancy, Nutrition, Diet and Health - Men's Concerns As Well, Not Just Women's

"It takes two to tango," so the saying goes. In the event of pregnancy, it takes two to deliver and raise a healthy and happy child. Pregnancy is made successful through partnership and teamwork - both the mother and the father have certain responsibilities that they must fulfill in order to ensure that their baby is brought about in this world in the best possible conditions and in the pink of health. Although the brunt of pregnancy may seemingly fall on the mother's shoulders - or in her stomach, to be more precise - since she is the one who would be carrying the child for nine months, the participation and health habits of the father are just as important as well, even during the stage of conception. Pregnancy, nutrition, diet, health - men's nutritional habits weigh heavily in the scheme of things as well. The food that a man includes in his diet can determine his ability to conceive a child, as nutrition plays a main factor in fertility.

A successful pregnancy is not only determined by the woman's proper pregnancy nutrition diet. Health - men's health, to be more specific - is an important factor as well. A man must have healthy sperm cells in order to be able to conceive properly. The health of the sperm cells can be promoted through a proper pregnancy nutrition diet. Health, men's eating habits, and not to mention their sperm count, may be improved by adopting the pregnancy diet that their wives or partners are on. The only main difference is that the men's diets have larger quantities than the women's.

Whether at the pre-pregnancy, during pregnancy or post-pregnancy stages, the principles of a healthy and nutritional diet are the same. It should provide the important vitamins and minerals through a complete and balanced selection of food items. Having a proper diet would improve the chances of conceiving successfully pre-pregnancy, aid in the growth and development of the baby during pregnancy, and maintain the health of the mother, father and baby post-pregnancy.
昖itamin C, D and E are major components in the healthy production of sperm cells.
昛inc is a mineral which can also promote the increased production of sperm cells.
æ—³ proper and balanced diet not only helps out in the area of sperm production, but it also helps in boosting the general wellness of the man.
昖egetables and fruits that are bright in color enable sperm motility.
æ˜'aking vitamins and minerals to supplement the food in the diet aid in repairing the harmful conditions brought about by toxins in the surroundings, and provide the necessary daily nutritional allowance.
æ—³ntioxidants found in fruits and vegetables allow for proper sperm regeneration, and prevent any damage brought about by age and nutrition gaps.

If the mother and father both practice healthy eating habits through a proper pregnancy nutrition diet, health - men's, women's, and baby's, are better ensured, and the couple have a higher chance of conceiving successfully.
