Organic Gardening - How to Improve Your Garden's Soil to Best Benefit Your Heirloom Tomatoes

Tomatoes can be a very productive crop if the condition they are planting in are favorable for them. They are a crop that likes a loose, nutrient rich organic soil structure.

Improving the soil where tomatoes are planted can be very beneficial for a good crop. Tomatoes need a loose, rich soil so they can spread their root system deep and easily. By mixing plenty of organic matter into the garden is an ideal way to improve the soil that you plant them in. Compost and composted manure are two of the best organic amendments to use when improving the soils structure for your tomatoes. another important part of improving the soil is to do a pH test of the soil. Tomatoes do best in a neutral to slightly acid soil, they absorb nutrients they need best when the pH level is between 6.5 to 7.0. Keeping the soil in the lower part of this range will help prevent a condition tomatoes get known as "yellow shoulder."

To prepare your gardens soil for your tomatoes, dig in compost or composted manure deeply into your garden beds. Using aged or composted manure when amending your gardens soil can also be done in the spring. Remember that roots of tomato plants love to travel and will grow out as well as down. when preparing the soil for your tomatoes you can at the same time mix in a slow release organic fertilizer, along with some lime if needed.

When you take care of your gardens soil it will take care of you by providing a healthy, high yielding crop for you to enjoy.

What is the Role of a Parent?

Parenting in today's world is probably one of the most difficult tasks of all. What is the role of a parent? Where do you draw the line on authority? Who does what in their role as parents? What are your responsibilities as a parent? Parents today need all the help they can get and this article seeks to answer some of the more baffling questions that plague modern day parents.

What is the role of a parent in the old fashioned context was for the father to take on the authoritative role of provider and protector and the mother to nurture. We would be hard pressed to maintain this concept in a society such as ours. Both parents work and more often than not single parenting seems to be the norm.

Children need to know and accept that parents are in charge. Raise your children on love and teach them the art of respecting people. Honesty, truthfulness, sincerity are virtues you can inculcate in your child with the right kind of upbringing. Teaching your child morals and values in life is not something that is picked up as your child grows, rather something that is taught from the knee high stage onward.

What is the role of a parent? It certainly isn't a dictator! Authoritative parenting requires parents to be firm in raising children, rearing them on love and warmth, teaching and guiding, avoiding harsh discipline and being clear in what they expect from the child, yet flexible when necessary. In order to be a good parent you have to walk a fine line between overindulging and overbearing in your treatment of children.

Families that make the effort to have family time sessions, share information, fun and laughter at mealtimes, and participate in the decision making will continue to strengthen the bond that binds. There is a very popular saying, "Families that pray together, stay together." I would like to stretch that to include those families that share and care build an interdependency and oneness that continues to grow over time. Treat your children with respect and they will learn to respect you. If you have older children, involve yourself in their lives without intruding. Smaller children are easier to manage, get them involved even in your shopping activities and weekly cleaning and you will find they make willing helpers.

Children need to feel loved and wanted and that is the main focus of what is the role of a parent in a child's life.

Between Gas and Electric RC Helicopter

RC helicopter has become one of the more popular "boy toys" that has hit and hit big. It's popularity is not surprising at all. Imagine fulfilling your dream of flying an aircraft without spending too much. And most of all: without leaving your foot off the ground. Now that's a good plus factor if you simply don't want to risk your life flying with a spinning rotor above your head.

It usually come in either gas or electric powered. Here are the things you should know about the two:

Electric - If you are a novice RC enthusiast, then the most advisable thing to buy is the electric version. The reasons are simple. It is simpler than other types of RC helicopters especially the gas RC's. With the electric, you don't have to deal with the engine and the gas it will consume. You would not need to have proper knowledge about mechanics just to make it fly. You don't have to spend a lot of time reader the manual just to understand how it works. And if the helicopter fails, you don't have to figure out how to fix it.

If you are thinking that electric RC helicopter would not fly for long then you should change you perspective. Most modern electric RC's are powered by lithium batteries and coupled with brushless motors. This makes it fly much longer. In fact it can out last some of the gas RC's.

And last thing: It is quiet on air thus you cannot disturb other's privacy.

Gas RC Helicopter - A more experienced pilot prefers gas powered for several reasons. One is, flying a gas model flies like flying a full-size helicopter since the sound that the engine creates can trigger excitement. Oh! You might think that it is quite absurd. But no! The sound of the engine makes it more exciting to fly. Another reason is that it is more complicated that keeps its pilot more addicted with it. Why? This is because the pilot is not only limited to flying the helicopter alone. Pilot is involved with how the mechanics of the RC. This gives him more reason to become excited on the RC.

Choosing between an electric model or a gas version is up to you. Evaluate carefully so that you get most out of your RC flying experience.

Planning the Perfect Garden

If you are growing and planting an organic garden, starting a chart for crop rotation is a very important aspect of it. Crop rotation ensures that the fertility of the soil does not diminish. When a certain crop is planted, it uses some of the nutrients present in the soil. On the other hand, every crop also adds certain nutrients to the soil. If you plant the same crop again, it will continue to deplete and add the same nutrients in the soil, making it unfit for the crop in later stages.

So far, the solution people have for situations like this is to add more fertilizer to the soil with every crop. However, this practice is extremely harmful. Apart from the soil getting completely depleted of its natural nutrients, the crop contains residue of chemical fertilizers, affecting our health in the long run.

This is why keeping a chart for crop rotation is a must. In crop rotation, a single crop is never planted successively. Instead, a crop is alternated with another crop that reverses the soil condition. For instance, if one crop uses nutrient A from the soil and deposits nutrients B into the soil, you next crop should be the one that uses nutrient B and deposits nutrient B. It is important to remember that you may not get the exact combination of nutrient exchange and may have to plant 2-3 different crops before going back to the first one.

Start a chart to keep track of which plant is sown in which part of the diagram. Consult crop charts to identify the different families that crops belong to. This will help you ensure that the crops are planted in perfect rotation.

If Your Adopted Child Has Low Self Confidence Do You Know How to Help Him

If you are considering adopting a child from another country, there are special considerations to accept and plan for. If you believe, as so many adoptive parents do, that God has a hand in placing an adopted child with the family he抯 supposed to be with, then choosing the right adoption agency to insure getting this placement right is one of your first responsibilities. Your research would focus on connecting with a good and knowledgeable adoption agency with conscientious and caring case workers and coordinators.

An agency concerned for the child to be adopted, his welfare and his feelings, should well understand the hurdles to be faced in dealing with being placed in a different family from a different country, with a different language and customs. Therefore, special effort and care would be given to matching the child with the family as closely as possible. This would be the first step in helping the adopted child to feel accepted and in dealing with the child抯 self esteem.

Would-be adoptive American parents of children from abroad (or from America) would do well to concentrate on helping their adopted child to understand that they are wonderfully made, and that regardless of race, culture or language, no matter if they are different in some obvious way from their new-found parents or others in the family or community, they are where they are supposed to be. Being different is what is so great about being a human being: you are free to be all that God made YOU to be ?not to be like everyone else.

The greatest gift a mother and father can give to their children is to demonstrate to them their love for each other. Your adopted child may have traveled a long way from his natural environment, but when he finds himself placed in the very midst of love, he begins to feel connected, safe and secure. Modeling this exchange of true love is sowing the seed of unconditional love that binds lives together stronger than any cultural or genetic trait can do deep within the heart of your child, and he begins to sense his real intrinsic value as a human being.. He will begin to understand that his value and worth lie not in what he is or is not on the outside, but what he is becoming on the inside.

Doing things together as a family builds trust and security. As you give of your time to each other in exploring the delights of your child抯 new found family and cultural environment, his confidence will grow. As you provide the opportunities to make new friends with both children and adults; to learn new skills and develop special talents based on his interests; to realize that making mistakes and learning from them are avenues to success, not failure; to reach beyond self in helping others in need; then will your beloved, adopted child begin to understand how important he is and how he fits into the mainstream of life.

When your child receives this love and respect from his parents, and if he is taught to respect all individuals regardless of differences, he will begin to accept and respect his own differences as being a part of life. Sensitive, caring adoptive parents seeking a child from another country would certainly make every effort to research all information possible about that country and seek to share that information with their child. Certainly they would seek out avenues for providing a connection to their adopted child抯 native country and culture such as meeting people from that country who live in or near their community; reading books, listening to music, enjoying various foods and perhaps even corresponding with relatives still in that country.

With all the challenges facing parents in helping their adopted child (children) build and maintain a healthy attitude of self esteem, you would do well to take advantage of all the research offered online, in libraries, and with community agencies. And do not over look the resource of divine guidance in this greatest of all life-changing venture.

Take comfort in this fact: Love is not contingent on biology. Love comes from that deep, committed desire to be a parent ?to care for and nourish that special little being that was once your 揳dopted child? but has quickly become 搚our child? Language, culture, skin color, genetics ?all of that fades into the background and the only thing that matters is that now, finally, you are together and will forever be ?family!

Baby Shower Gift List - Question and Answers

What are the pros and cons of parents setting up a gift list for a baby shower?

A carefully prepared gift list is a good way for new parents to let family and friends know what they actually need for their newborn. It helps avoid duplicate gifts, and helps guests focus on the real needs, rather than guessing. Also, if you want to give a gift, but aren't familiar with the needs of new babies and mothers, look at the list and find something that will make a nice gift. It can also let people know what is not needed. If relatives or friends have already promised a well-preserved stroller, crib, high chair, car seat, etc. why not state it right on the list.

On the negative side, if you are drawing up the list, be careful not to be too ostentatious. Often gift lists are set up as a registry with a department store. If you set up your list with a high end store, it could be a turn-off. Their reaction could be, "What do they think that we are made of money?" You certainly don't want to sound greedy. So be reasonable in your requests. One other possible negative is that your guest may think of a really great gift, but not get it because it is not on your list.

What are items that are appropriate to include on the gift list?

The best gifts are those that are genuinely needed. Remember, caring for a baby in its early months can be quite expensive. Therefore, think in terms of something that you will have to buy if no one gives it, rather than just cute or novelty items. Obviously baby clothing will be needed, so undershirts, booties, little pants, jumpsuits, little dresses for girls, various baby outfits, etc. are practical. Feeding items like baby bottles, nipples, pacifiers, bibs and training dishes will be needed. Disposable diapers get expensive, so they should always be appreciated. Things like small blankets and other bedding will be needed. Would you be buying other things like photo albums, picture frames for baby pictures, growth charts, various grooming items (little hair brush, combs, baby soap and shampoo, etc.)? Then put them on your list.

I've mentioned a stroller, crib, high chair, and a car seat. Add a baby dresser. If you don't have any promised hand-me-downs, add them to the list. New ones can get costly, so you could even suggest that several go together on something expensive that you really need.

Some people like giving baby toys, but think, what do you really desire the baby to have and what would you buy if no one gives it as a gift. If it is something you really want for your baby, put it on the gift list. Often parents consider things like rattles, small dolls, and other safe toys as real needs, feeling it is important for the baby to play with such things. Many parents view picture or reading books as important. The reason is that child experts stress that reading to a child, even one too young to understand, creates wonderful parent-child bonding. The child grows to love books and reading because it is associated with parental love. If they develop a love for books, it may help them in school and in their educational development.

This is not a complete list. Just remember, if it is something you need and would buy yourself, then put it on your list. But be reasonable. Don't expect high priced gifts from family and friends of modest means.

Does a gift list inhibit personalization of gifts or homemade gifts?

Not necessarily. Those who want to make something personal will still do so. Not everyone will feel limited by your list. You can pretty well count on someone making a very personalized gift as an expression of their love. In conclusion note that a gift list doesn't stop creativity or people from coming up with unique and special gifts. But it does help you to receive the things you really need and may just help in a small way to get your new life as parents off to a good start.

Baby Meets Grandparents - How Involved Should Grandparents Be With Your New Baby?

Everyone knows that some grandparents do a lot for their grand kids, and some do very little. Some grandparents help financially, some help with chores and babysitting, and some do both and then some! On the other hand, some grandparents are pretty uninvolved - They feel like they're pretty much done with raising kids!

We all also see that some parents are thankful for the assistance they get from grandparents, and some parents resent it--it seems like meddling to them. Other parents simply expect it!

Others feel slighted, seeing disparities between what they have and what their friends and siblings have regarding the the grandparent-grandchild relationship. They also may feel slighted simply because things aren't going the way they expected that they would go.

As a new parent, the "grandparent involvement issue" is the kind of thing you might not see coming--but if you're expecting or if you've just had your first baby, this is something you will be dealing with, if you haven't begun to deal with it already.

Although problems don't often boil over, beneath the surface tension does often exist between parents with a new baby and the baby's grandparents. Everyone has his or her own private expectations, plus there are quite a few people involved between Mom and Dad and both sides of the family. Unless there's plenty of understanding and/or open communication, some friction or resentment is certain to be there.

A baby's parents might ask themselves, "Why doesn't Grandma offer to babysit once in a while?" or "I wonder why Grandpa doesn't visit more often since the baby was born" or "I wonder why Grandma seems so uncomfortable to be left alone with the baby" or "I wish Grandpa wouldn't undermine my authority like that!"

Grandparents may wonder "How come they don't come and see me more often with my adorable new grandchild?" or "She seems so protective--I wonder if she trusts me with her baby" or "I don't want to be the meddling in-law, so I'm going to take a hands-off approach with my grand kids."

And so, people are torn. What should a person's expectations be for the role of grandparents when that new baby arrives? Is it right for parents to expect their own parents to help out with the care of the baby here and there, or is any help one receives from a baby's grandparents just gravy?

The easy answer is "it depends."

First, do your parents want to be involved with your baby beyond birthdays, holidays, and the occasional social call type of visit, and are they able to be so involved?

Second, do you want them to be very involved with caring for your baby? Do you need them to be involved beyond the typical family get-togethers, such as in assisting you with daycare when you go back to work or offering to babysit once in a while so you and your spouse can have the occasional dinner date without the baby in tow?

Everyone needs to come to terms with the reality of the situation as well as the fact that his or her expectations may be different from others' expectations

No matter if grandparents are very involved or not very involved in the daily lives of their grandchildren, there are some do's and don'ts everyone involved should keep in mind.

Here's a quick list of do's and don'ts for proud new grandparents:

  • Do try to remember how hectic life was for you when you had a baby to care for. What kind of help do you remember needing or wishing for when you had a baby in the house (whether you got that help or not!)?
  • Do make unsolicited offers to babysit here and there so Mom and Dad can get away for a few hours on their own.
  • Do hop up and change a diaper once in a while--we know you know how!
  • Do let Mom and Dad know if you're not able to babysit. You don't have to be the all-time babysitter!
  • Don't criticize how your grandchild is being raised, how their dressed, etc.
For new parents here's a list of do's and don'ts concerning grandparents:
  • Don't expect grandparents to be your personal daycare specialists. Be sure you're not taking advantage of their willingness to help--they may find it difficult to say "no."
  • Don't be shy about asking Grandma or Grandpa to watch the kids for a few hours once in a while.
  • Don't criticize how Grandma or Grandpa is handling your baby--trust them, and don't expect them to handle everything the way you do.
  • Do thank your parents if they watch your kids--they aren't contractually bound to do it!
  • Do be sensitive to grandparents' point of view. How did you feel about volunteering to help out a friend or a sibling with her baby? Sure, grandparents are family, but the responsibility of raising your baby is YOURS, not theirs.
No matter the involvement level of grandparents in your baby's life, it's a relationship that requires thoughtfulness, mutual respect, and a little TLC from both sides!

Ectopic Pregnancy - Causes, Symptoms and Cure

There are many pregnancy abnormalities known in medical science. Among these abnormalities, ectopic pregnancy is one of them. It is actually a type of pregnancy complication. In ectopic pregnancy, the fertilized ovum starts nourishing in some other tissues other than uterine wall. Mostly, the fertilized ovum starts developing in tubes. Due to this development in tubes instead of uterine wall, this abnormality is also called tubal pregnancy. It is not necessarily tubes where fertilized egg develops; it can be any other parts of the body. The common places for the fertilized egg to grow are cervix or abdomen. The egg keeps on developing and the time comes when it become mature enough to burst causing severe bleeding and ultimately can prove fatal for mother's health. If it is not treated properly then the it can have deathly consequences.

The symptoms of this disease are very subtle and are very difficult to identify. However, you can have grim prognosis of whether you have this abnormality or not by the early signs of this disease. The early symptoms of this disease include pain in lower abdomen and also pain while having bowel movements. The most threatening symptom of this disease is vaginal bleeding. This is quite obvious symptom of this disease. Ectopic pregnancy is actually nothing more than a failing pregnancy so it causes much vaginal bleeding. The patient suffers from internal as well as external bleeding in ectopic pregnancy. Internal bleeding can cause severe pain in backbone and pelvis regions. It also causes severe pain in shoulder and you are unable to do any daily chores.

As I have explained earlier that ectopic pregnancy is abnormal pregnancy in which the fertilized egg is unable to reach women's uterus due to certain blockage. This blockage can be caused by several factors. This blockage can either be caused by inflammation of tubes or endometriosis. The other things that can cause blockage of tubes are some past surgery. The blockage of tubes can instantaneously be checked with the help of urine test because this test gives results very fast and ectopic pregnancy must be treated as soon as it is diagnosed.

If ectopic pregnancy is in premature stages then an injection of methotrexate is given to the patient causing decease in the growth of the embryo. If the embryo has developed somewhat bigger in the tubes then surgical methods are used to remove the abnormally developed embryo. However the modern techniques such as laparoscopy can save the patient from complex surgical methods. Laparoscopy is a method in which the access to pelvis of the patient is gained and then the affected tube which is causing abnormal pregnancy is removed. This is a bitter fact that ectopic pregnancy can develop again. So the best practice is to get a regular check-up from some expert doctor to monitor the functioning of Fallopian tubes and minimizing the chances of getting ectopic pregnancy again.

Get Baby to Sleep With These Tips

With a little light playtime, your baby will have the opportunity to unwind before bedtime. A little playing can help the baby to fall asleep quicker, however, be careful not to play to hard, that can hinder a baby in falling asleep and you want to get baby to sleep as quickly as possible.

Your baby's comfort can also help to get baby down in a timely fashion. Warm baths and a fresh diaper can lull a baby to sleep. In some cases, a comfortable set of pajamas can add to a baby's comfort level and promote a drowsy baby.

When it comes to holding or touching the baby, many different methods can be used to get baby to sleep. All babies are different so not every technique will work, so do not be discourage if some of them do not work but be willing to keep trying.

Walking with the baby, or gently swaying the baby while walking can often lull a baby to sleep. Rocking the baby in a rocking chair or a glider and softly patting the baby's back is another proven way to help the baby go to sleep. Talking, reading, or even singing to a baby is an excellent way to get them down, just remember to keep your voice low and in a monotone range so as not to stir the baby. As a last resort, a parent can offer the baby a pacifier.

Another good way to get the baby to sleep is to pay close attention to the baby's room. Playing soft lullabies with the lights tuned down low or having a baby nightlight one could be all that is needed to get the baby down to sleep.

In some cases, if nothing else works, you should to see if your baby has a fever. Sometimes this as well as pain from teething or other conditions can cause pain that can keep a baby from falling asleep.

Great Events Require Outstanding Invitations

It goes without saying that parties and celebrations take a whole lot of planning and hard work to pull off. There are many plans that must be made, ranging from selecting appropriate party invitations to choosing a menu, renting a location and making and putting up decorations. The truth being told, it takes many hours of dedication to plan an event from creating the guest list all the way to planning the after party clean-up detail. Many hosts and hostesses get very caught up in all of the stages involved in planning an event and actually spend far too little time selecting the invitations. If these same people realized that the invitation is a direct reflection on the event itself and that the invitations are very often the determining factor as to whether or not your guests will attend the event, perhaps they would dedicate a bit more time in the selection of the invitations.

Many people rather thoughtlessly jump their cars and head out to the local mall or department store and search for their invitations there. The selections are usually very limited to say the least, and more often than not, people rather thoughtlessly buy rather dull invitations because they are simply not offered many choices.

By shopping for party invitations online, you are not only offered a very wide selection of outstanding invitations, you can find them for any event you could ever imagine. If you are throwing a bridal shower for example, you can easily and quickly find bridal shower invitations online that are clever, unique and attractive. There are numerous online retailers who sell nothing but invitations and these experts know the industry and offer you service that is second to none. No matter what type of invitation you are looking for, you will surely find it online. These e-store owners carry everything from birthday invitations to bachelorette party invitations to invitations to 25th wedding anniversary celebrations. Many of the online invitation websites even allow you to build your own invitations by allowing you to select the card, the border, layout, text and trim. Not only will you find the world's widest selections of invitations online, you will also find the best prices. Most of us are aware of the fact that card shops in shopping centers are over-priced and that the selection of invitations leaves a lot to be desired. The word generic comes to mind. The next time you need some great invitations for any event, be sure to shop for them online. You will be very pleasantly surprised and glad that you did!

Popup Santa -- Kids Christmas Make

Watch as Santa Claus pops out of the chimney pot. But don't get him stuck because if he catches you he won't bring you any Christmas presents.

To make a popup Santa you will need - 2 loo-roll tubes. One needs to be slightly bigger than the other, so that one can easily slide up and down inside the other tube.

The larger tube is the chimney pot. Cover this tube in paper or paint to look like a chimney pot.

The smaller tube is Father Christmas. Stick on paper or paint this tube to look like Santa Claus. Give him a long white beard and a bright red coat.

Stick on a strip of red paper around the top of the tube so that the paper over hangs the tube. Scrunch the top edge of the paper to form Santa's hat. Stick a cotton wool ball on the top to finish it off. The glue helps to keep the scrunched up edge nicely in place.

Cut out two thin strips of card. Stick them on the side of Santa to make his arms. The turn over you make to stick on the arms acts as a hinge later. Santa抯 arms will pop out of the chimney as Santa appears.

When Santa is complete and the glue or paint is dry, cover Santa in sticky clear book protector or clear selotape. This reduces friction as Santa slips up and down inside the chimney.

Put Santa inside the chimney. Put your fingers up inside the chimney to mover Santa up and down so that he appears to POP out of the chimney.

Popup Santa is great for 'doing' the actions to the song 'When Santa got stuck up the chimney'

When Santa got stuck up the chimney,

He began to shout,

揧ou girls and boys won抰 get any toys,

If you don抰 pull me out!

My beard is black,

There抯 soot in my sack,

My nose is tickling too?br>
When Santa go stuck up the chimney,

Achoo Achoo Achoo!

Babies and Stairs Can Go Together

When one thinks about a child around the house, there is no doubt that all of the areas that could possibly cause the child harm come to mind. It will often seem as if there are so many that it can be quite overwhelming to the parents. This need not be the case though as there are various products and precautions that can be used in order to prevent most of the common accidents that do occur.

If there are stairs in the house then this is usually one of the first areas that should be of concern to the parents. There are some who might just want to avoid this all together and as a result it is not uncommon to find that people want to move out of houses that have more than one story. But this is not the easy way out as you could just put in a baby gate for stairs. These products are especially designed to fit into any stair case, no matter what the width. They ensure that your children will not have to face the possibility of falling down the stairs.

Previously these products meant that as a parent you would literally have to jump over the gate, but this is no longer the case as many of these products are now designed to open. So you could get a baby gate for stairs that simply opens up and you could just walk through it, while still ensuring that your baby is unable to do so and therefore won't face the prospect of a nasty accident on the stairs.

It is nice to know that these products are out there in the market and they provide you with an alternative of having to move house. This can be a rather extreme way to go and many people find the whole process hugely traumatic so you can imagine the impact on children. Rather take the simpler option.

Acupuncture For Infertility - Alternative Treatment For Your Fertility Problems

Infertility diagnosis is a difficult issue to digest. Most couples find it rather difficult to accept the findings on the first few weeks after the diagnosis. It is a condition that affects both men and women and is defined as the inability to conceive after six months to one year of unprotected and regular intercourse. It may also be the woman's inability to carry a baby to a full term and resulting in miscarriage.

A series of causes have been identified as to largely contribute to fertility issues for both partners. These factors include a woman's age, menstrual cycle, ovulation disruption; a man's sperm count and quality, erectile dysfunction, sexually transmitted diseases and tubal blockages; and environmental and lifestyle factors like excessive alcohol and drug intake and stress.

ACUPUNCTURE as INFERTILITY TREATMENT

Acupuncture is an age-old process of that is proven to alleviate pain and suffering and promote well-being through the use of small, thin needles. These needles are inserted onto pressure points called "acupoints." This age-old Chinese traditional medicine started thousands of years ago and was slowly integrated into the western medical practices.

Acupuncture is said to be based on the principles of "vital energy" and balance and harmony of both mind and body. It aims to restore the body's natural balance. It brings renewed energy and revitalized hormones to encourage an over-all health make over. The practice of acupuncture is to aid our bodies heal naturally through new-found energy.

Couples who are undergoing IVFs and other artificial reproductive techniques are encouraged to practice acupuncture. Recent studies have found that acupuncture has aided the treatments and has increased the couples' chances to conceive, by helping the body recover its energy balance. It also helps the body regulate hormones and systems and encourages proper blood flow to different organs.

It is recommended that women who undergo IVF treatments should practice acupuncture at least half an hour before the scheduled IVF procedure, and half an hour after the embryo transfer. This is explained by the body's natural reaction to the acupuncture session, as the body achieves a higher state of relaxation, in turn relaxing the uterus and making it susceptible to embryo growth and conception.

IS ACUPUNCTURE FOR YOU and YOUR PARTNER?

Discuss with your partner the possibility of venturing into acupuncture process and bring the interest to your fertility expert as well. Your physician would want to know this information so as he/she could adjust treatments for you to better complement your alternative therapy. Acupuncture is known to be a safe procedure with no published side effects and contra-indications. It will definitely help you relax before and after alternative reproductive techniques and maximize your chances of conception.

When you decide to try out acupuncture, make sure you find a licensed acupuncturist to perform the procedure. This will assure you the safety of the procedure, as only a licensed acupuncturist knows the exact locations of median points. They also use sterile needles that would ensure that no complications and infections arise. Read more about the benefits of acupuncture and discover them for yourself when you finally decide to try it out. Who knows, the conception you've always been waiting for may just be around the corner, after a few sessions or so.

Get Started in Scrapbooking-It's Easier Than You Think

Scrapbooking is so much fun ?everyone is doing it ?and if you haven't started yet, you don't know what you are missing. Have you noticed all the scrapbook supplies they have in the stores? With the advancements in digital photography allowing you to modify and print your own pictures, there has never been a better time to get started in scrapbooking. Fresh ideas have never been so easy to come by, thanks to the internet. So, if you're feeling overwhelmed by it or don't know how to start, read on.

Start Simple

The first place I always start when putting together a new scrapbook is to archive all of the family history, arranging all of the family pictures in some kind of order. It can be chronologically, by season, or by any other order you wish. You will be surprised at how much fun this can be. It never feels like work when you are enjoying it. Reliving all of the memories sometimes can be as enjoyable as the first time. But Remember, you don't have to do it all in your first scrapbooking project. Start simple, don't get overloaded. And always remember to enjoy it.

Begin with a simple project such as a vacation, holiday, a child's school year, or even something as simple as a family outing.

Don抰 use all the photos you have, only choose a few photos that tell the story you want to tell. Leave the rest of the photos in the shoebox for future projects.

Let go of the pressures by not setting a deadline. Don抰 make the story strictly chronological. Mix it up, but limit your color theme, keep each page centered around the event you are sharing. I always set out to design each page differently. Remember, there is no right or wrong way, this is your scrapbook.

What You Will Need

You can start scrapbooking with the bare necessities or with all the bells and whistles, this depends on your personal style. First, you need an album, so pick one that will go with the idea that you have or let the store supply inspire you. You will also want to pick up some refill pages to fit your album. You don't want to run out in the middle of your scrapbooking project and discover that these exact pages are difficult to find. Get a good pair of scissors just for scrapbooking, and make sure they are comfortable in your hand and sharp, then keep them with your supplies. Don't forget the internet, this is such a valuable resource when looking for scrapbook supplies. You can shop right from the comfort of your own home, and have everything delivered right to your door. This saves a lot of running around town.

You'll also need adhesive. You can find this at any scrapbook store, craft store or even Wal Mart. Make sure it's acid-free and is good for both photos and cardstock, because you will want to choose cardstock and paper to accent your photos. Choose holiday colors for holiday scrapbooking and baby pastels for baby scrapbooking. And lastly, you will need a craft store that specializes in scrapbooking so you can find specialized papers that are available by the sheet. I will mention again, don't forget the internet. Many online scrapbook stores offer complete paper packets that match exactly, saving you time once again.

Scrapbooks need words. Adding text to your pages helps tell the story. Try adding captions, or expressions. Select fine-tipped, permanent acid-free pens to supply the words, though, hand-printed titles may require wider tips.

This shopping list is very simple but will get you started. You will get more ideas online or at your local scrapbook supply store.

Next Step: Be Creative

I like to choose some photos that fit my chosen topic, and two or three colors of paper that will enhance my selected photos. Next, I select the photo that will be the page抯 focus, then crop and mat the photos. I try to make each page tell a story. Next, add some text, captions or even a date. Be creative, try something new.
Quick Tip: I always lay out the page in full before I glue anything down. I tend to rearrange the page several times before I find the right look.

Now, that wasn't so hard, was it? Good luck and good scrapbooking!

Benefits of the 5-Day Embryo Transfer For IVF Procedures

In some IVF procedures, doctors may wait three days before transferring embryos to the uterus, while a five day transfer is used by others. The advantages and disadvantages may be debated by the scientific community, but understanding the pros and cons of such a procedure is important for infertile couples interested in the in vitro fertilization procedure.

Of course, a fertility specialist should be alongside when making such a decision, as their knowledge and experience is certainly something that couples should take advantage of when making such a decision.

Waiting five days before transferring embryos to the uterus allows the doctor to select the highest quality embryos for transfer. Choosing the best quality embryos for transfer is important for infertile couples, as it gives them a better chance of becoming pregnant.

An embryo that has been allowed to develop for five days is called a blastocyst. These embryos have developed two cell types and a center cavity filled with fluid. For more information about blastocyst embryos, patients should speak to a doctor in the field. In many cases, more educated patients turn out to be more successful patient, so consulting with a physician regarding this procedure may be beneficial to the couple.

One of the advantages of a five day transfer for IVF procedures is that five days is a more natural time for the embryo to make its way into the uterus. Many IVF procedures perform a transfer after two or three days, but embryos of this age are usually found in the fallopian tubes. Transferring after five days instead of two or three may reduce the risk of multiple births as well.

After two or three days, it may be more difficult to determine which embryos will be healthy enough to develop, while culturing embryos for five days will often give doctors a better idea of which embryos will be more likely to develop long-term. Therefore, fewer embryos may be transferred, which decreases the risk of multiple births.

The disadvantages associated with this method are minimal if the clinic performing the procedure is well-equipped and has quality control measures in place. Clinics with less than optimal culture environments may not have the same success rate as proficient clinics, making clinic selection an important task in this procedure.

Less than optimal clinics may have greater success with two or three day ivf transfer methods. Speaking to a medical professional at a proficient clinic is important for couples interested in this procedure.

Changing Times Means More Eco-Friendly Diaper Bags

Think back to the last time you changed your shower curtain, or even your hairstyle. Chances are when thinking about how many times we change aspects of our own lives you'll find that many times we change and don't even realize it.

Recently, I changed what my family was eating. I did so not because I was feeling poorly or thought that my children were becoming obese. I changed what we were eating, how much we were eating, and how I was preparing our meals because of all the healthy living hype we hear so much about in the news, on the internet, and in things that we read in newspapers and magazines.

Changes within our lives don't always happen because we feel some underlying drive to be better citizens, healthier individuals, or even because we have some inspiration to save our environment in every fiber of our being. Changes many times arise because the thoughts of becoming more environmentally friendly or living healthier lifestyles come about because someone has planted the thought into our brains. As an influenced individual these hidden hints have changed how I live my life dramatically.

Manufactures have jumped onto the bandwagon of making more environmentally friendly products mainly because more and more consumers are becoming better aware of their surroundings. More Americans have realized the state our environment is currently in, but more importantly we are realizing that if we continue to use the products we are currently using our already serious problem will lead to the destruction of the world, as we know it.

Baby manufactures have jumped onto the eco-friendly bandwagon too! As we've seen over the past few years, consumers have steered away from purchasing the 'traditional style' items and are purchasing more modern looks to better suit their family's style.

Manufacturers are changing the styles, colors, and materials of the baby products being made. Diaper bags are among one of my favorite changing items. This may be because as a young modern mother, a pastel diaper bag was the only option for me a few years ago. Nearly 7 years later brightly colored fabrics with trendy prints are the new hot item.

On the top of my favorite list are new eco-friendly diaper bags that are both up-to-date and affordable! Eco-friendly bags are being manufactured in varied colors, prints, and styles to fit anyone's needs, even dads! These modern new diaper bags are made up of recycled water bottles. This means that every bag is keeping 3 to 5 bottles out of the landfill!

Change occurs sometimes because we have an inner drive pushing us to change, or possibly change occurs because someone or something implies that the change is good for one reason or another. Changing towards a more environmentally friendly world is one of the best changes you can make!

A Model Train Manual For Those New to the World's Greatest Hobby

This is a general overview of what the model train hobby is and what it entails. In a effort not to discourage new beginners to this ever expanding pastime, this article will not be too technical yet designed to catch your interest.

The first thing that any model train hobbyist should know is about scale, and gauge. Scale refers to the actual size of the train engine, cars, and accessories.

Model trains come in all scales, from tabletop size to larger ones more suited for an outside display. Scales are sorted into various groups, each called by a letter of the alphabet.

For example, 'G' scale train models are 1:24 scale, which means it is just one twenty-fourth the size of a real locomotive. These are often found with train hobbyists who lay out their model trains in a back yard setting, such as interwoven through gardens, and other landscaping.

The smallest scale of model train is a 'Z' scale which is 1:220, or 1/220 of an actual locomotive. This small scale is perfect for a tabletop display, however it can be extremely hard to use, so it is not a very popular size with most model train hobbyists.

The next part about model trains is gauge. While this is often confused with scale by many beginners, it is NOT the same as scale, and mixing up the two will definitely anger experienced train buffs.

What gauge measures is the distance between the trail track rails. For a simple example, if you have a 9gauge train track, this means that there is nine millimeters of space between the inside of the rails.

The higher number of the gauge, the greater the gap will be. You might be confused by this, but don't sweat it right now.

The HO scale of 1:87 is perfect for anyone just getting into model trains, and for more experienced enthusiasts too. This size goes great with a variety of setups, since it's little enough to fit in tighter spaces, but big enough for most people to easily work with.

The HO scale is very popular in the model train arena since it can be used in many different displays and its accessories are readily available. Which leads to the discussion of to accessories and layouts.

Collecting model trains would not be nearly as much fun if you couldn't purchase additional cars other than just engines. So, you can purchase a variety of diverse cars to attach to your train, such as passenger, shipping and tank cars.

The display scenery can contain little figures, trees, cars, houses and other items also making model trains more engrossing. You can create anything you have ever imagined.

You can invent your own landscaping techniques, using parts from plastic plants or dried plants to create rustic greenery. Old cans work great as oil tanks and grain silos, if you put a little bit of detail into them.

There are many basic sets a beginner can buy, with all things to start your hobby. You can find many of these on websites, or you could also start at your local hobby shop.

A retailer can not only offer many different ideas, but can also answer many if not all of your questions. Hopefully you will want to know more information about model trains, and you can find many example layouts online for creative ideas.

How to Host a Great Superbowl Party

Your new bar is complete and the 70 inch TV is hooked up to the satellite dish on hi def mode and the surround sound speakers are in place. Your walls have Football decals and signed pictures of your heroes for the proper ambiance.

This year, your new man cave can be "football central" on game day and you need to be ready with great food to compliment your awesome sound system. Take a different approach to the standard sandwich and chips fare that usually sits on the food table at your neighbor's house and go with some new ideas to make it the best party ever! With a bit of planning, you can give them some great food without breaking the bank and allow you to stand out on game day.

1.Burgers and dogs do not have to be just for outdoor barbecues. An indoor grill can create some fantastic food for your fans. Burgers, dogs or even sausage can be grilled easily with an indoor grill. Hot food and convenience your guests will love.

2.Before game day, break out the smoker and load it up with Apple or Cherry wood for subtle smokey flavors. Prepare a couple of beef briskets serve with some crusty French rolls with some of your famous barbecue sauce and all the fixin's and you are all set. You can use an indoor smoker or if the weather holds out, the Bullet will do just fine.

3.Meatballs, chili or beef stew in a crock pot are easy to make and simple to serve. A little cheese and their mouths will be salivating for more.

4.Beer butt chicken is a simple favorite dish usually seen as an outdoor fare, but is easily done in the oven. It makes a succulent bird with meat that falls of the bones.

Give them a Superbowl experience they will never forget is easy with a few hot dishes and a great TV room. Try something other than sandwiches and chips for the big game this year. You will certainly be the host with the best spot in the neighborhood.

Looking For Natural Ways to Induce Labor?

Many women are looking for easy childbirth will be pleased to learn how effective natural ways to induce labor can help them. It's a very private decision, but something more mothers are doing today.

Remember that inducing your own labor is not uncommon. Many women want to avoid c-section delivery or being induced at the doctor's office. If you're wanting a more natural childbirth, you have many different natural ways to induce labor

For one, one highly recommended way to induce labor is using acupressure. You might not be familiar with this type of procedure, but it is quickly gaining popularity in many countries. It is a part of Chinese traditional medicine and involves applying pressure on various parts of your body to pressure your nerves. The important thing is that in pregnant women there are a few spots that will get you going when pressed correctly.

Two other useful ways some pregnant mothers use are nipple massage and sex. It's okay if don't feel "in the mood" for these - it's fine, and quite a few women don't either. But if you want to, these are useful ways to induce labor naturally. They both use natural hormones and responses to bring on contractions.

There are hormones called prostaglandins. These hormones, when absorbed by pregnant women, might start the ripening of your cervix. Combine this with an orgasm, this and sex can often start your labor. But then, many women are will not want to try these natural ways to start labor.

Also, for those are very late in their pregnancy, nipple massage might be useful. With all the other physical changes your body has undergone you've no doubt noticed how sensitive your nipples have become. Rubbing them gently will release oxytocin - a chemical into your body that can frequently bring on labor.

Another thing to consider medicinal herbal formulas. Herbs like black cohash, blue cohash, evening primrose, and red raspberry can induce labor. This is something to definitely discuss with an herbalist or midwife. They can prepare you special extracts or oils to start contractions. These herbs are one of the more traditional and natural ways to induce labor, and have worked for many women in the past.

Don't forget that there are many ways to naturally induce labor. When in doubt discuss your plans with your doctor or OB/GYN, and stay healthy. Staying healthy is useful for an easier childbirth.

Alternative Infertility Treatment Options

If you are struggling to become pregnant, you have many different options. You can try standard infertility treatments such as IVF and drugs, or you may want to look into alternative fertility treatment options. There are many alternative fertility treatments available. Some you can do yourself at home, others may require a specialized practitioner.

At Home Alternative Fertility Treatment Options

There are several different at home infertility treatments available. Probably the most common has been the use of various fertility herbs to treat infertility. Herbs have been used by women (and sometimes men) to treat infertility conditions for thousands of years. The science backing the effectiveness of fertility herbs varies by the plant you choose, and you should certainly do your research before starting on any herbal treatment program.

There are also lifestyle and dietary changes that can help improve fertility. For example, reducing stress, getting more exercise and eating healthy are three major changes that can dramatically improve fertility. There are special fertility diets (some developed by doctors) that stress foods such as whole grains and full fat dairy that you may want to follow.

Some alternative fertility consultants also suggest you consider doing a whole body cleanse (or fertility cleanse) prior to becoming pregnant, to help remove toxins from your body which may be interfering with conception.

Specialized Alternative Fertility Treatment Options

There are two main alternative treatments for which you should consult a specialized practitioner. The first is acupuncture. Acupuncture has been scientifically shown to improve a woman's chances of conceiving, as well as reduce the chances of miscarriage. Fertility massage is another option for which you may or may not need a specialized practitioners (self fertility massage is also an option). Both acupuncture and massage help reduce stress hormones which can interfere with fertility.

As you can see, there are many different alternative fertility treatments available, and many women report the most success with a combination program using many of these therapies simultaneously.

Fresh Herb Gardening Benefits

You probably buy your herbs and spices preserved and dried at the store. While the flavors and health benefits of herbs can be found this way, consuming fresh herbs is even better. Fresh herb gardening brings the consumption of fresh herbs to a whole new level. You can help your bank account, enjoy flavorful, convenient, healthy herbs, and learn about the variety of herbs available to garden.

Possibly the most expensive way to spice a dish is to use fresh herbs purchased from a specialty market or grocer. Save money by growing your own herbs. All you need to invest is time and effort, after the initial cost of the plants and necessary growth items like fertilizer. Tend your fresh herb garden carefully and the garden will pay for itself many times over.

You will get the strongest flavor from fresh herbs straight from your garden. Dried herbs certainly lend flavor to a dish, but the older they get the less potent their flavor. Use your fresh-harvested herbs immediately. Or, just like a bouquet of flowers, they will keep in the refrigerator for up to a week. Place the cut stems in a glass of water and top the bundle of herbs with a loose plastic bag for humidity. Use sharp scissors to cut what you need.

Whether you grow your herbs in an outdoor garden or choose one of many ways to grow herbs indoors, your herbs will be available for you to use any time you want. All herbs need to thrive is light, well-drained soil, a minimum of five hours of direct sunlight-or 10 hours of fluorescent grow-lighting-and proper watering. Some herb kits are designed with hydroponic growing equipment and techniques, meaning you never get dirt under your nails.

Fresh herb gardening offers the opportunity to explore subtle differences found between different cultivators of the same spice. Oregano, for example, has over forty species and eight common varieties grown in gardens. You'll not find this option on the spice rack at the grocery market.

Teas and medicinal tinctures are more potent when made from fresh herbs. Actively respiring plant tissues hold healthy compounds in more potent forms. Your herbs' health-giving properties such as antioxidants are more readily available when fresh. Drying herbs removes the water, concentrating the flavor and properties in a smaller space. When using herbs fresh, use three times the amount you measure of dried. For example, if the recipe calls for one teaspoon of dried sage, use one tablespoon of fresh sage.

Branch out to find multiple uses for your fresh herbs: aside from trimming leaves for cooking or adding to salads, you can integrate herbs into massage oil, use them to fragrance linens or a room. Some herbs work well as a natural, organic insect repellent.

Beyond the usefulness off herbs, gardening itself is a healthy pursuit. You can burn 120 calories with only 30 minutes of gardening activity. Raking, pruning, digging and other garden chores constitute moderate exercise. Working in the fresh air and sunshine caring for living plants is not only healthy but also relaxing and a great way to release stress.

Everything You Wanted to Know About IVF

Do you have a dream of having a baby laugh and play around you? Your own baby? Do you want to give birth and feel the essence of being a mother? The feeling of giving life is something that every woman should have at least once in her life. But there are some of us who are not that fortunate and have certain complications conceiving. There are various studies and procedures going on about how to solve this problem, a lot of women experience. Of course one could always go in for adoption, but there are lots of complications there and besides giving birth is not only a whole new experience it opens up a feeling in a woman that is so wonderful that one can't help but feel overwhelmed by it. In vitro fertilization (IVF) is a procedure from which the egg cell of a woman is fertilized by a sperm outside the womb. This method is the easiest way to have the egg fertilized if all the forms of normal conception fail. It is a well know treatment in infertility.

An informal expression for babies conceived as the result of IVF, is test tube babies, and that refers to the tube-like containers of glass or plastic called test tubes, that are frequently used in chemistry labs and biology labs. On the other hand, In vitro fertilization is usually performed in the shallower containers called Petri dishes. (Petri-dishes may also be made of plastic.) However, the IVF method is actually carried out on organic material, but is yet called in vitro. This is used when parents are having infertility problems or they want to have multiple births.

Here are a few things to know about In vitro fertilization Complications

The main complication of IVF is the danger of multiple births. This is directly associated to the practice of transferring multiple embryos at embryo transfer. Multiple births are related to bigger risk of pregnancy loss, obstetrical complications, and neonatal morbidity with the possibility for extensive damage. Limits on the quantity of embryos that may be transferred have been passed in some countries to decrease the risk of high-order multiples (triplets or more), but are not commonly used. Splitting of embryos at the same time in the womb after transfer can take place, but this is uncommon and would cause identical twins.

An additional risk of ovarian stimulation is the growth of ovarian hyper stimulation syndrome. If the infertility is connected to abnormalities in spermatogenesis, it is likely, but too early to examine that male child is at higher risk for sperm abnormalities.

There are many variations like PGD (preimplantation genetic diagnosis), ICSI (intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection), ZIFT (zygote infrafallopian transfer) and GIFT (Gamete intra fallopian transfer).

One should always consult a good doctor and if possible take two or three more opinions. This is a procedure from which one can benefit infinitely but the only thing to remember is to use it cautiously knowing the limitations of one's body and consequences of the decision. If possible one can also go to a shrink to take a different opinion.

Want an Easier Labor? Try Exercise and Eating Well

You know the saying, "eating for two" and taking that saying literally is often why it takes longer for women to lose their "baby weight." It's so important for a mother's health and the baby's health to eat well and exercise while pregnant. But, it's also confusing knowing what you can and should eat and how much you can exercise.

Healthy eating during pregnancy provides your baby the nutrition needed to grow and become healthy, reduces your chance of having health problems like low iron or high blood pressure, helps you gain a healthy amount of weight, and helps you and your family develop healthy eating habits for life.

What you eat goes to your child and you want to avoid giving your baby too much sugar and saturated fats. An interesting fact to consider when making food choices is that a person's fat cells are developed in three stages: during third trimester in utero, during adolescents and while pregnant. It's certainly all right to give into real cravings as long as you eat them in moderation. Just make sure your cravings are true and you aren't just justifying your desire for something high in fat

Eating well

Often times, the first trimester is full of the excitement of learning your pregnant, but also "morning" sickness. The nausea can be overwhelming, but keeping something in your stomach can help. Choose healthy foods like whole-grain crackers, almonds, walnuts and peanut butter.

One idea is to carry around several small Ziploc bags of trail mix made up of ?cup all-natural granola cereal, six almonds or cashews and 2 Tbsp. dried raisins or cranberries. This is a great mix of protein and helps control your blood sugar. A snack of all-natural peanut butter on whole grain crackers and non-fat cottage cheese with fruit is also a great treat. If you find yourself craving sugar, force yourself to east some fruit and you'll find the sugar craving to go away and you'll feel great instead of guilty.

Exercise provides well-rounded benefits while pregnant

Exercising and eating well during pregnancy can help you enjoy an easier labor - yes, that's right, an easier labor - and easier time getting back into shape. Eating well is just as important as exercising. Strong abdominals, inner thighs, upper and lower back, and shoulders are important to develop during pregnancy, the delivery, and after the baby's born.

When pregnant, your heart rate tends to rise more quickly. Make sure to talk to your doctor to determine your target heart rate so that you can be cautious of that number while working out.

Exercise that is good for you

Especially during that first trimester, getting motivated to exercise when all you want to do is crawl into bed can be difficult. The trick is to force yourself to do something. Tell yourself you just have to be active for 15 minutes. Once you get going, you may find your able to keep going for 30-40 minutes. But remember, some exercise is better than no exercise.

The best cardio workout while pregnant is walking. Walking at a low-moderate pace with 1-2 lb. hand weights gets your heart rate up, burns calories and helps tone in a low intensity manner that is perfect for pregnancy. Walking on a treadmill or using an elliptical machine is also good means of cardio exercise.
Resistance training is helpful for toning and maintaining your strength. I'm a huge fan of resistance bands. They are inexpensive, lightweight and can pack easily.

Here are some examples of good resistance band exercises to strengthen your core areas during pregnancy. For each exercise you can do 2-3 repetitions of 12-15.

Outer and Inner Thighs Exercises:

Tie the resistance band ends together to form a circle. With your feet shoulder length apart, place the band around your feet. Place a hand on something stable and lift one leg to the side using the resistance band to tone outer thighs. Switch legs. For inner thighs, lift leg to the front. Switch legs.

Shoulder Exercise:

Put resistance band under feet with feet shoulder length apart. Hold both ends of the band in each hand. Do front lateral lifts with the resistance bands.

Abdominal Exercise:

Put resistance band under feet, with feet shoulder length apart. Do side to side crunches using the resistance band to work oblique's.

Don't use your pregnancy as an excuse to take time off from your health. Avoid the attitude that since you are already gaining weight naturally, you can eat whatever you want. Knowing that what you put in your mouth also nourishes your baby will help keep you on track. You need to be healthy for not only the baby, but yourself. You need strength for delivery and after the baby's born. Extra weight will slow you down and also make your pregnancy more uncomfortable.

You don't have to be overly strict and regimented, but stay balanced with good eating habits and physical activity; you'll find your pregnancy to be healthier, delivery to be easier and losing the weight after the baby is born to happen more quickly.

Identifying Pruning Time

Prune, when you are able to judge pruning time:

There are buds at the nodes on the stem, from where the branches grow out. Removable of the tips of stems stimulates the growth of branches. Amongst most shrubs, at least one to three buds are produced from each node. But this usually depends on the type of shrub. Most experienced gardeners have a good knowledge on different types of shrubs, different sizes and shapes of shrubs and also know the rate at which these shrubs grow.

That is the reason why they are able to judge when exactly shrubs need to be pruned. Plants respond in different ways when pruning is done in different seasons of the year. Latent buds in the pruned plant, get activated due to pruning and then grow well after pruning.

Pruning should be done in the right season:

Don't keep pruning the plant whenever you feel like. A plant requires specific time, for new plant tissues to be formed. In the pruning process the tips of the plants are removed, and hence you should take care to prune them in the right season and the right time. Some shrubs start to flower just before summer starts.

The right time to prune these shrubs is early summer, so that the new growth of these shrubs, get appropriate time to ripen as well as mature. Philadelphus and Forsythia are two examples of these types of shrubs. Some shrubs need to be pruned in winter or spring, so that they get their next blooms in the following season.

It is best to prune shrubs and plants before they start budding. Shrubs that flower should be pruned once they flower so that they can keep flowering in their next season, or else they will form seeds instead. Sometimes bad weather and bad handling can spoil the shrubs. It becomes essential to prune damaged ones. For a neat precise pruning job, use a nice pair of secateurs, which you will be requiring every year to prune the plants in your garden.

Why Party Planning Software is All the Rage

If you plan one party or less a year, you probably have no need for party planning software for your computer. This software can prove invaluable, however, for the person who plans parties on a recurring schedule. If you are retired and have grandchildren, you might want to ask yourself how many times you actually plan an event. If you are in charge of event planning where you work, you may need software to assist you.

You may be unaware of the many and varied software programs available on the market. Not only are there programs that will assist in planning general parties, but many are designed for one particular type of party. For instance, there are programs for planning bar/bat mitzvahs, weddings, birthdays, and so on. Some of this software is free, and some comes with a price.

Let's say you are interested in planning at least three parties per year. If the parties will be different types each time, it is reasonable to look at a general type of software that gives you flexibility. If the only parties you plan are birthdays, then that is the only kind you need to purchase.

The typical event planning software organizes every aspect of the party into logical categories, and they are usually customizable. The categories come with ideas and line items that allow the user to add costs and come up with a budget. Some will show the percentages of the budget as they are planned for each party phase. Another aspect of most software is the checklist produced to tell you what you must do and when.

Many software manufacturers have presentation quality reports that show what the costs are for each item and even a schedule of events. This is a great tool if you are planning for a company and need to be able to answer to a superior. It is also helpful in arranging responsibilities of others who are part of the event team.

It may be an advantage for you to generate reports to email to others with interests in your party. If you are expecting other people to contribute for the costs incurred, this is an excellent way for them to see why you will need as much money as you claim. They may have input into cost saving opportunities and the timing of events leading up to the party.

A good software allows you to track travel, transportation, entertainment, and lodging for people who may be coming from out of town or, in the case of wedding planning, going out of town.

Whether you are a teenager, grandmother, executive, or parent, party planning software makes the hardest part of the event planning easier to handle. Most software is simple enough to use and understand, allowing everyone involved with the party the same information. Check prices and features on any software before you buy.

Cymbidium Orchid Flowers

When choosing orchids, there are several beautiful and unique species to choose from. Many are afraid of orchids in general, overwhelmed by misinformation as to how to care for them. They are without a doubt, one of the most popular species of flora grown all over the world. With a few tips from expert growers, you can become successful at growing and cultivating them at home.

Cymbidium Orchids have long roots and need to be planted in deep pots so that the roots have plenty of room to grow. Pots don't need to be wide, narrow and deep work best as wide pots influence new root growth which takes too much energy from the plant. Deeper pots allow the roots to continue growing long and let the plant keep it's energy above soil, growing tall stalks with numerous flowers. It is important that the roots remain damp but not wet. When choosing a medium for potting you want something that will not hold too much moisture. It also needs to dry at an even pace so there are no wet pockets. Your climate will affect the type of medium you choose as well to maintain the proper amount of moisture. If you live in a dry climate, rock with a bit of tree bark may work to hold in some of the moisture. In humid areas, rock alone may work best to maintain the right level.

Reproducing of Cymbidium Orchids are achieved by division and replanting. If grown in deep pots as described, bulbs should be easy to separate and re-pot. If you decide not to reproduce your plant, it is still important to change the soil every few weeks to give your plant more room and a chance to grow. When you remove the roots from the medium, it's a good time to check and see how the roots are faring, are they dry and in poor condition or are they thick and healthy. Once divided, roots should be treated to avoid any harm to the plant. Elemental sulfur should do the trick nicely.

Watering should only occur about twice a week depending on the conditions. It's best to water around the edge, letting the water run through the container as to let the roots slowly access the water rather than watering directly on them. With a spray bottle, you can administer fertilizer to the flowers and spikes after watering the soil.

If you live in the north, you should probably allow your Cymbidium Orchids 70 percent shade. In the south you can increase that amount. If the leaves begin to fold and droop, it is likely due to too little light. If the leaves turn light yellowish green, you probably need to decrease the light allowed. The temperature is important to maintain with no more than 20 degrees between day and night.

With these tips, you should be able to grow happy and healthy Cymbidium Orchids with full blooms that keep your home full of beauty and peace.

Time for the Holidays-RUN!

The holiday season has begun. From Thanksgiving until New Year's Day most people have numerous family, social and business events to host and attend-not all of them willingly. There are many ways of wading through the myriad of parties, dinners and gift-giving without exhausting every bit of energy and money that one possesses-they may not be popular, but it can be done. Here are but a few ways to unclutter your calendar:

First, realize there are some that are "no-brainers", the ones that if you miss will either put you on the hit list professionally or in the dog house with your family. Those are the ones that you pull out the red sharpie for and underline. After all, if your niece's trip into teenage-hood begins with a family function to beat the band and you're not there, trust me, heads will roll and the guilt will be horrendous. Same will ring true if your boss gives an end of the year soiree and you try to beg off with a migraine. Personally, I'd add (if appropriate) your spouses work obligations. These are the must-go events, so just dust off the party clothes and have a great time-no matter what!

The next functions are the ones you really want to attend. These are the ones where you get to catch up with friends that you were too busy see throughtout 2006. The casual evenings that you get to get into your comfiest clothes, bring your part of the potluck and do not want to leave-swearing that the group will not wait until the end of 2007 to do again. Trust that no matter how much planning is involved, this is the group that in fact will probably not get to have a truly fun evening again until the next holiday season. For this reason, make sure you put time and place in ink on the appropriate dates.

Now we get into the area of social get-togethers that the editing can be worked on. The invitation to attend a cyber-friend's kazoo recital. We all get them and the show is usually an hours drive away, sans traffic. Now unless your kazoo artist buddy drove the same hour to witness your child's elementary school Seasonal Violin Show, DO NOT ATTEND. What is the worst that can happen-you get a few less e-mails? It would be nice to go, it may even be fun-but if what you want to do is cut down on the amount of evenings away from your own hearth and home, this is a definite area to either use pencil in the blank boxes or simply send regrets.

Finally, many people get invitations to neighborhood open houses from people they may only have a nodding acquaintance with or maybe a quick wave through the car window. I also put the co-workers personal needs parties in with this grouping. These are definitely "skippers", the ones you can fudge slightly and say you would have loved to attend, but you've already made other plans. It's not lying-it's no one's business if your plans are to sit at home with whomever you share your existence with and enjoy a hot cup of cocoa or glass of wine.

One of the best ideas for thinning obligations during this time of the year is to make reservations to leave town! When I ran my own business I would simply lock my doors for the week. My husband and I would stay home and just rest. Maybe if finances weren't too strained we'd take a couple of days and enjoy another climate and come back refreshed and ready for the New Year! My sister who is perpetually overrun with parties simply could not stand her children's "gimme" attitude and expectations to be driven to every party in town (and all the gifts that seemed to be required to give and give thanks for) one year. So she and her husband decided as soon as the kids had their end of the year finals that they would pack up and go on a family vacation. They had such a wonderful time, that they made it their family's tradition! It's not that the money is any more or less (it's a draw according to the powers that be), it's just that they drive to the location of their choice and spend some very much needed famly time together and that in itself is the gift of the season.

Christmas Decorating Tips - Make the Holidays Really Special

Christmas is that special time of year when family and friends come together to celebrate the joy of the season and often create special cherished memories. For many, it is the most joyous event of the year and its arrival is anxiously anticipated.

Most of us love making our home look especially nice during the Christmas season. Here are a few Christmas decorating tips to help you with your holiday decorating so you can make the holidays special for your family:

1. Don't try to do it all yourself. One of the great pleasures of Christmas is that it affords us time to spend with family and friends. This Christmas instead of trying to do it all yourself make it a family day event where everyone contributes by helping. Often this can be a really fun family day and a great way for family bonding. Be sure to have special treats and snacks to go along with the decorating. A great way to finish the day is with a movie and some home delivered pizza.

2. Put together a "holiday decorating plan" before the designated day to decorate arrives. This is one of those Christmas decorating tips you should fully embrace. This will get you thinking about the various tasks involved so you can pinpoint names to each project to save time on the decorating day. A great way to develop your plan is by involving your family members in its development. After a family meal, get each member's thoughts and ideas. This will help them to feel as though they are an integral part of the project.

3. Make a list of the things needed for your decorating project. A good way to stay on track and save time is to have everything ready to go. If you are unsure on where some things are stored that will be needed, then set some time aside to look these things up before the time comes to decorate. Few Christmas decorating tips are more important than this one. A lot of time can easily be wasted if you have to continually look for things.
