Tips to Help Stop Separation Anxiety From Your Baby

Becoming a parent is a truly wonderful experience. However, leaving the house for the first time without your new baby is stressful. The longer you wait to venture out of the house the harder it will be. Don't wait until you have to go back to work to start taking baby steps.

First, find a babysitter that you trust. Ask other parents, that you know, who they use or if you are lucky enough to live close to family, use them. Have the person stay with the baby while you do your housework or shower. This will give you the opportunity to see the person you plan to leave your baby with in action. Once you do this you may be ready to take the next step.

Head out on a short trip to get milk or gas up your vehicle. These short trips will help baby and parent get through the initial separation anxiety. This will also give the babysitter a chance to get used to staying alone with the new baby. Now that you have taken several short trips out of the house without the baby you are ready to try something tougher.

Don't head back to work just yet. Plan a date night or grocery shopping. This way, if the baby starts crying constantly or you realize you can't handle the separation just yet, you head home until you're ready to try again.

Once you feel comfortable with the babysitter, get through the initial separation anxiety and can stay away for a while, you can handle going back to work or leaving for the day.
